I purchased a Samsung PN-50A450P tv in January 2009, it's been a great tv until a month ago. A black line appeared about a third of the way down on the screen, extended warranty came and replaced the panel, the warranty company says it's the correct panel for the tv but I can clearly tell the quality is not the same, the picture is dull, the black is not black, I have adjusted as much as I can and it still pails in comparison to what it was. My question is, is this a common problem with Samsung? Did Samsung really cheap out on replacement panels?

Sounds a lot like the Power supply board. But you have to check it out further to be sure. Email me back and we'll chat. GURU JAY

Hi,
The most common cause for the loss of picture is a bad Horizontal Output Transistor
(HOT). but I would suggest you get a detailed
estimate. I think that this would cost you about $60.
The horizontal lines means the vertical amplifier or deflection system
has failed. There are over 100 components in this section and any one
of them, or most of them can be at fault. However, the most common
failure is the VOT or vertical output transistor (which is often buried
inside a chip).
The repair will cost around $150 plus or minus.
FEW TROUBLESHOOTING STEPS YOU CAN TRY:
ONE: Do a hard reset (just to make sure there is nothing in the coding
that is fowling things up). Unplug the power cord; leave it disconnected
for 4 hours. That will restore everything to factory defaults when you
power it back up.
TWO: Do the "whacking test" by banging your fist on a few strategic
places to see if there are any cold solder joints or loose wires acting
up inside the set.
If the above steps don't solve ur problem then I suggest you to go for a repair if you don't have any knowledge of repairing it.
Goodluck...

this sounds like a scan board gone ,, if you check ebay youll see two things,
1, other tvs for sale with the same fault (It might give you a clue to the fault ie , which board )
2, the same tv as yours with a broken screen ,
i dont know how good you are with taking things to bits but i personally would buy the tv with the broken screen and start swapping over the internal boards ?
Have you checked your home insurance policy for broken tv,s
it may have fell of its stand when you were'nt looking?

This should be repairable. It may be the LVDS Cable or the Main board problem. The only other problem is the T-Con Board.
