I keep getting a message saying: "Cannot properly communicate with the scanner. The carriage unit may be locked depending on your scanner model. Make sure the scanner is properly connected and set up to scan. Then, turn the scanner off and back on again." I've checked connections, which are fine. Tried turning off & on, made no difference. But it's obviously connecting in some way because it will preview pictures (just not do full scan). It has been doing this on and off for almost a month. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

The new PC was Vista and the CD that came with the scanner completed loading a driver without complaint. However, a new driver was needed for Vista. After downloading the new driver from Epson, uninstalling the old driver and installing the new driver, it worked.

Basti!
Thanks for your answer. I already tried all that -- the USB didn't show up at in the system profiler. Finally I pulled out all USB connections and tried all over = working!!! The problem was a relatively new USB con to a JBL loudspeaker. I never thought USB could intefer with each other, but now I learned something new :-)

SOURCE: When I try to scan
Hello.
There could be a problem with your computer's USB port or the scanner's USB cable. Are you plugged directly into the computer or into a USB hub? Did you try a different USB cable and a different port on the computer? Can you try the same printer on another computer?
Hope these suggestions help.
