I've tried turning it off and back on but still does it...also tried HDMI cable to see if it would display on my tv but it wouldnt even show the jumbled screen
You should try to connect a VGA monitor to your laptop and see what happens. It sounds like a video card failure, and often the hdmi and the VGA are powered by different graphics chips.
If it works with a VGA monitor, try to install a new driver for your graphics card. Otherwise, try a system restore. That often solves your problem.
If a restoration doesn't help, your graphics card is probably broken. Get a new laptop. Avoid Acer :)

Try reloading the drivers, delete the device in device manager and reboot. It should then pick up the drivers and reload them, if that does not work I would suspect the screen is on its way out (flickering normally means the screen or its connection is bad)

Sounds like the CCFL is failing.. (Backlight)... Pink hue is common when these start to go out..

Hello yoyoxide.
from my experience can be something related with the video card. I recommend you the followig (Hardware diagnostics):
-Look for one of the discs that came with your computer, it should say (Drivers & utilities).
-Boot from the CD. If you don't know how to do it do the following:
1.Insert the Drivers&Utilities Disk.
2.Restart teh computer.
3. When you get the Dell logo, press F12
4.Select Boot from CD/CDRW-DVD (something like that).
-You will get a prompt to run the diagnosics.
-Just follow the wizard
-I recommend you to run diagnostics for everything.
-You will see if you have any problems with your hardware.
It seems that you have a pretty new laptop, so probably it's under warranty.

Lines on screen would be caused by a faulty screen. To solve this you must replace the screen.

The price difference in the cables are what type of metal wire that is in it. One might have copper or even gold plated and the lower price one might have some low end metal. I have not seen any difference. Yes, all you have to do is plug it in and Windows 7 will recognize your TV. You might want to go into the Control Panel and open Sounds and make sure you have the audio turned on for your HDMI connection. Your laptop screen and the TV will be displaying the same.
