I somehow got the tamper light on and now its locked. no buttons will work on it or remote. there is not a button to push and hold on tamper nor on remote. what do I do.

I looked this set up, and Unfortanatly there is no universal remote that will unlock the set and also theres no way to do it without the original remote. Sorry to be the one with bad news. Also the right remote is available at 1-800-remotes or http://www.remotes.com for about 52 bucks + shipping. Good Luck

There should be a "TP" or "Tamper Proof" button on the remote for the TV. You need to press and hold this button for a few seconds. It seems the Tamper Proof mode is a child lock of sorts.

on some models the menu button is on the front disguised as the volume up/down or channel up/down buttons. you have to push both up/down buttons on either one of these to bring up the menu.

Hold down the tamper proof button on your remote for up to ten
seconds, until the tamper proof light will blink and light
will go off. This will turn off the Tamper Proof button.

the set it off, also there is not a button on remote to push to hold down. its the original remote and I have checked the tv there is not a button to hold down on it. its just a light.
