My poulan wont start any suggestions

remove spark plug.attach spark plug wire.make sure metal part of spark plug is grounded to engine.get in a dark area{sparkis difficult to see vin sunlight.crank engine.if no spark check plug cap.if ok it's probably the electronic ignition module.

have you wire up the stop switch wires correctly
is the coil to flywheel gap set at .007" or the thickness of a business card
did you fit the ground wire to the coil block under a mounting screw
did you use a OEM part or a generic from e-bay

Do a basic test first, remove the top cover, pull the earth cut out wire from the terminal on the ignition unit ( this will iliminate any problems with the switch, or wires ) now try for a spark, remember that they work off speed of rotation so give it a good pull, make sure you use a good clean plug, well earthed against the cylinder. If there is still no spark, you will need to replace the unit, part no. 530039143

Did you check for spark? Try starting fluid to see if you could at least get a hic cup? Almost sure that your issue is carb related and you may have to replace it if it is not an ignition problem.

CHECK THE SCREEN ON OUTPUT OF THE MUFFLER. ITS CALLED A SPARK ARRESTOR, THESE GET OIL FOULED AND MAKE EM A BEAR TO RUN . CLEAN IT UP AND SHE WILL RUN LIKE A CHAMP, THE CARB MIGHT NEED REBUILDING ,FUEL FILTER AND A SPARK PLUG IS THE FIRST THING TO REPLACE .. IF'N I WAS ANY HELP VOTE FOR ME ...THANKS.. JAY

try cleanning the spark plug

Check the fuel lines for cracks/breaks. If they are o.k., then:

Youwill need to disassemble the carburetor and spray with carb.cleaner.Make sure the small screen is free of debris. (Should be able to seedaylight through it.)

Use a Den Tek Brush, (http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=165357&catid=1152),to clean the small portals in carb. These portals can become blocked. Reassemble and start.

If the carb. parts are more than 4 years old, you may have to replace them.

If you need further assistance on:
1. Fuel line replacement or
2. Carburetor kit replacement

start saw when cold and work it hard. if it stalls or quits remove spark plug and hook the plug wire to the plug and ground to the cyl head have switch on and pull the start rop briskly a few times or use a test plug. if there is no spark disconnect ign switch from from the ign wires and pull rope a few more times.spark?= replace ign switch,no spark until engine is cool,replace coil.

Look for a pinched/bare stop-switch wire (I assume that you don't have spark now). Also, check the ignition coil core gap to the flywheel magnets (I use card stock to set the gap). Make sure the plug wire was not damaged again.

Take the wire of the spark plug,and see if it shocks you when the cord is pulled.If not there may be something wrong with your coil.(loose wire for example)If it does shock you,you may want to check out your piston rings,or the little air/fuel mixture valve between your carburetor,and cylinder.
