I have a HP Pavillion DV6704nr and when I have it plugged into my LG external monitor it doesn't display. I had it displaying earlier, but it wasn't mirroring the image, it was extending the desktop. Now, after I had adjusted some settings from Mobility Center (Winkey+X) both the laptop display and the external are black. The external swaps from "No Signal" to "Unsupported". As I said however, this laptop was working prior to the event, so it isn't an unsupported problem.
Hi johousen,
Try this:
1. Disconnect your external monitor (LG). You should then have your laptop screen back.
2. Go back into Mobility Center and click on the icon of the "two screens" above "External Display". This will take you into the "Screen Resolution" control panel.
3. Change all settings back to what they were originally (when the laptop was displaying "extended"). When you're done, keep this screen open for step 5.
4. Reconnect the screen (LG) to the laptop. (If you changed your settings back to what they were, you should now see your screen in "extended desktop" mode.
5. Change the "Multiple displays:" option to "Duplicate these displays". Click "Apply" The screen will flicker and your setting should now be correct.
Hope this helps!
Re-boot the laptop. Verify that the "POST" operation comes on during the restart - if not then you have a graphics issue in the laptop.

Sounds like an extended desktop. have you tried dragging an open window (ie. internet explorer webpage) to the top, right, bottom, AND left? When you get to one of the edges, move it like you are moving it off and it should move to the other screen. You can change your setting to 'duplicate' your desktop in your video settings.
SOURCE: Data Shows up only on External Monitor, not on Laptop Screen
Hi,
Since the laptop works on the external monitor, then it would be safe to assume that it is only the L:CD display part that is the issue. Often LCD display (of laptops) are working but only that you can see the actual display. One way to verify is to shine a flashlight at an
oblique angle to the screen, semblance or part of the desktop could be
seen. If the
desktop could be seen (albeit very very dark background) then it could
either be the CCF Lamps (cold cathode florescent) or the inverter that
powers the lamps.
Often, the defective component would be the inverter. It is
relatively easy to replace the inverted. It is sometimes more difficult
and challenging cracking open the casing of the display panel of the laptop than replacing
the inverter. Additionally, inverters are readily available online. It
is also not surprising that inverters for other brands/models would
also be used in your Toshiba.
This would be a good place to start for inverter boards. This is a nice tutorial if you are considering a DIY.
In some worst case scenario, it could be the video interface or even a loose/open flat cable from the laptop's main body towards the LCD display panel.
Hope
this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back
how things turned up or should you need additional information.
Good luck and kind regards.
Thank you for using FixYa.

I changed my computer resolution to a lower value and this did the trick. I was also told that by doing this along with having the display shown only through the projector (instead of it being mirrored on both displays) should negate any problems. Thanx

"Unsupported Signal" means that your laptop is probably set to a resolution or refresh rate that yoru TV doesn't support. You will need to go into your Laptops video settings to make them match what your tv will display.
