If you're missing Skype calls because you can't hear the ringtone, it's time to crank up the volume. There are three different ways to increase the ringtone: within the Skype client, within your operating system's volume settings and by adjusting your physical speakers or headset. You might find it necessary to adjust all three settings to get the proper volume. You also must set your Skype status to "Available," because a "Busy" status disables the ring from incoming calls.

Launch Skype. Open the "Help" menu. Select "Options." Select "Audio Settings" from the left sidebar of the Options window. Find the "Speakers" listing. Uncheck the "Automatically Adjust Speaker Settings" box. Slide the blue volume slider to the right to increase the volume. Press the green play button to test the volume. Skype plays a default ringtone to test the sound. Adjust your computer's sound settings. Windows users, click the speaker icon in the taskbar located at the bottom right of your screen. Move the slider up to increase the volume. Mac users, open the "Apple" menu. Select "System Preferences" and click "Sound." Drag the slider to the right to increase the volume. Turn up the volume on your speakers or headset. Desktop speakers can be adjusted by turning the knob on the front of the main speaker. Headsets sometimes have a small button that can be pressed up and down to adjust the volume, depending on the model.

SOURCE: built in Webcam won't work with skype

If you use your webcam in different programs it may be still hooked up on one. Try re-booting your webcam software
Mine, I just unplug it and plug it back in.
As yours is built in - expand the imaging folder in Device Manager - Right click on the webcam text and toggle between 'disable' and 'enable' leaving it disabled for a few seconds - long enough to re-boot.

My friends can see &HEAR me BUT I CANNOT hear them. what can i do?

If you are sure that your mic is working properly, then take a look at this illustrated picture:
207e95b.jpg

On the skype menu, click "Call" and select "Audio Settings", this window will open up, the first slider (option) is for Microphone.. when you speak on the Mic, the indicator will show the status. Simply move the first slider to the extreme right and save the settings.
If this doesn't seem to work, then you need to check your computer sound settings. Open the sound settings and make sure that Microphone is selected as the default recording device, and is not muted.

Since you didn't mention the details about your computer, I can't make this specific. If you need further help, let me know with more details like the Operating System installed on your computer, the sound card...etc...

Good luck..

Thanks for using FixYa.

When i skype with my granddaughter, i can hear her, but she cant hear me

It must be with your mic or with your computer's sound settings or with your skype sound settings. First check your Microphone, you can record something using the Windows (if your o.s. is windows xp or vista, or etc..etc..) built-in Sound Recorder.

Open your computer's sound settings and make sure it's default recording device is Microphone and the volume is turned up.

Open the skype, click "Tools", then "Options" and again click" "Audio Settings" and check the mic volume, if possible uncheck the "Automatically adjust the microphone settings" and turn the slider to the right. Save the changes you've made and try again.

If the problem persists, let me know.

Good luck.

After installation, using Skype, I can see and hear the person but they cannot hear me. I looked around and found several answers about downloading drivers but when I go to Microsoft's website, I cannot...

You do not say if the webcam has a built in mic or what mic you intend to use for chatting - You need to set one as 'Default' especially if you have a laptop with a built in mic as well
XP
Plug in your webcam
Control Panel (Classic View)
Open 'Sounds and Audio Devices' folder and click on the Audio tab - make your webcam mic the default device in the 'Sound recording window'
Open 'Volume' below the window to ensure the mic is not muted
Click 'Apply' and 'OK'
Restart your computer
Configure the webcam to your chat program

VISTA
Plug in the webcam
TEST SPEAKERS
Right click on speaker icon in System Tray or from Control Panel
Select "Playback Devices"
The speaker icon ( checked as working) and volume level graph should be visible
Right click on the volume graph and click "Test"
Left hand speakers followed by right hand should be heard

SET DEFAULT & TEST MIC
Click "Recording" tab.
Right click on the volume graph and select 'Show disabled devices' and 'Show disconnected devices'
To set required (webcam) mic as default - click on mic font to highlight and click "Properties"
In lower dropbox display "Use this device enable" click 'OK'
Click "Levels" tab and ramp up sliders ( adjust to suit later)
Return to "Recording". Test mic by speaking and make sure volume graph displays

Restart computer

CONFIGURE TO SKYPE
Connect webcam
Its good practice to disconnect and re-connect your webcam before you start (To reboot the webcam software) - if you have been using it elsewhere the SKYPE software may have difficulty in locating it, even if you exited the previous program correctly.
The reason being, the webcam software can remain hooked-up to a program and needs to be rebooted.
Mine, I just unplug it from the USB and plug it back in to reboot the software.
If yours is integral with the computer you will have to re-start the computer, use a keyboard shortcut or disable / enable the webcam from the Device Manager.

Start Skype.
On the 'Tools' menu, click 'Options'.
In the navigation pane of the Skype 'Options' window, click 'Audio Settings'
Run down the list setting your defaults
Select your webcam as the default microphone.
Make a free test call
Click 'Save'
In the navigation pane of the Skype Options window, click Video Settings.
This will launch your webcam
Adjust quality of picture in 'Settings'
Check the correct webcam is shown as default
Click Save
Test your webcam by making a Skype test call.
