Step 1:

There are many possibilities of what the issue is. You need to first figure out your setup.
Some questions to ask are:
  • How many computers are using the wireless internet
  • How fast is your internet
  • What type of wireless is the computers using (A,B,G, or N)
  • What online games is this issue happening with

Step 2:

First thing is to check your wireless connection.
If there are a lot of computers using the wireless at once doing activities such as online games you could expect disconnects to be possible.

Try to be the only one using the wireless internet and see if you have the same issue. If this works, then your internet can't handle all of the computers using it all at once.

Step 3:

The next thing is to check your internet connection in general. Try connecting the computer directly into the router or whatever your internet is coming from and see if you have the same issues. If it works then there is something wrong with your wireless internet.

Step 4:

The next thing is to check your game. If this issue only happens with a particular game and not the others then there is something wrong with your game. Depending on what game you are playing, the issue may be more than just your internet.

Step 5:

If you still having the same problem after doing this, you need to look at your computer. If your computer is old (maybe 3+ years) it's possible that your wireless nic card may be too old to go fast enough for the online games. I assume you are talking about playing big pc games vs. playing card games online.
Possible options:
1. Clean out your computer. Empty recycle bin, delete old files, run disk clean up or use ccleaner (download at www.cnet.com), defrag your computer, and etc.

2. Get a new wireless nic card. If you get a new nic card, I'd prefer getting one that uses N wireless since it's currently the fastest. I'd suggest using this suggest if your computer is relatively old (around 3 years). Keep in mind that I talking about how old the computer is and not how long you have had the computer.

3. Save up for a new computer.

Try a USB wireless device. If it works, then your internal wireless adapter is bad and can be replaced.

See Anthony's solution #5 and then #1. There is a need to keep the laptop COOL, CLEAN and then you mention that it shuts off at the good parts, just may be too much game for your laptop. Possibly there may be a need for additional memory, It is possible to also need to purchase a faster internet service....
Good Luck to ya

Hi there I would tell you why:
1) your DSL speed band only 1.5M and the upload could be lower then 256K speed. that is not avalible to get good condition for more laptop wireless online at same time
2) other thing, your laptop wieless online in your router situation that depends on the laptop wireless card type, high level (faster)card will get more speed band and aganst other laptop.
so you could not setting any more to get improved.

SOURCE: No internet connection

if you are worried about the icons that are sown in the tray system ( lower right in the task bar ) those are showing the other connections that are not working at the time ...for example the LAN cable conection ...and the blue tooth ..those will appear not connected if you have no cable on the Lan card or blue tooth device connection ...even if you are connected via wireless those will appear unless you choose to unchecked the show in tray ...
if you are asking about the connection you have made wireless and it doesnt work ...you probably have a driver problem ..just reinstall the driver for the wireless card if you know that the connection should work ...if you have acces on the net wireless those icons that are x-ed on the right on the task bar are for the other connection methods ..so do not worry ..

The wireless on this computer keeps dropping -- but it will only do it in spurts. It will go for about a day dropping the 'net and then the same thing will happen a couple of weeks later. Any idea

From the description the wifi card has become intermittent, try removing the card and reseating it back in places making sure the antenna wires are attached to the card and in the right order.

Continually loses connection to internet

based on your other computers working fine in your network, first thoughts are:
1- the start of hardware failure of the wireless card in your notebook. it might be heating up leading to the drops. eventually it may give out. my sister's wireless card did that and she got it replaced free by sending it in. an arguement against this is that most of the time, when a card goes, it goes, and so the intermittent thing probably points to something else, at least at this point
2- you installed some firewall, or changed firewall settings on the laptop, and the firewall is affecting your connection. this wouldnt affect signal strength or the connection itself, but more your computer's ability to use a good connection properly. it may not be this if your computer keeps dropping the connection in the strict sense.
3- windows TCPIP stack corruption. try removing your wireless card in the devices under device manager. on reboot it will be "reinstalled" but some corrupt drivers may be reset. re-creating your wireless connection may wipe out problems. you'll have to punch in your ID and password, SSID and WEP password, if any, to your existing network.
4- wireless card drivers-- try to update your drivers to a newer driver version that which might fix a problem with the existing driver allowing drops. try your manufacturers site 1st and make sure you download drivers for your model and operating system
