I've been trying to get it to work with a P1006 Printer, and it doesn't look good. If you're able to get it to work, please let me know.

I have one of theses D-Link PD-301U. It soes NOT support most All-in-one printers like yours. According to D-Link's Web site, here are the HP Laser printers it supports (note the P1008 is NOT in the list):

LaserJet

  • 1200
  • 1500 (USB 2.0)
  • 2200
  • 2200D

I just finished getting a P1006 working on both Xp and Vista. The primary part that is missing is that in both XP and Vista, the default OS install does not include LPR print services! Once I installed that the remainder worked fine.

In both OS's, you go through control panel to add/remove programs or Programs & features. In the left pane is a link to change windos features. Middle of the list is a check item for print capabilities. Turn on ALL options.

In the install I did I'm actually running RAW instead of LPR, but this was needed to get either working.

Also, if you are running through LPR with a queue, you want to check off enable byte counting.

What is the difference between d link DPR 1020 and DP-301u

One of the main difference between this tow printer is the DPR1020 is made to work with all printer including those multi function printers , because this old DP301U was a older version of print server that don't support those new multi function printers features like scanning and fax. So if you have a multi function printer I will advice you to get the DPR1020 so all features of that printer will work behind this print server.

    Printing Problem

i got my dp-301u to work fine with my hp1020 on 2 different workstations with the following steps.

    1. install printer locally via usb and test.
    2. create a second printer as per the dlink manual creating a port. don't worry about the name as we will delete it.
    3. once created go into the properties of the 2nd printer and change the port to something local - anything will do to free up the port.
    4. go into the properties of the printer that was created in step 1. and change the port to that of the print server.
    5. test print. should work fine.

    cheers!!

Using HP Laserjet P1006. Is it compatible with DP-301U

Yes. I just got mine working last night. Key is to enable print services for windows through the control panel. Without that LPR printing does not work.

    D-Link DP-301U Problem

It should be fine as long as it is in the range that the router can recognize and that it doesn't conflict with another IP address used on another device. Usually on the networks I design I keep the printers on higher IP address so that they can be managed on a certain range.

Is this the wireless print server?
