Door pops open during drying

Can't get the door to stay closed for more than a couple of minutes. Tightened all the screws and the latch is intact. Has gotten progressively worse. Tried duct tape and bungees to keep it closed. Nothing works!

Got the dryer working!! Here is our logic. The dryer element works, the hing and latch don't appear to be damaged. So...for some reason the dryer is turning off. Is it because it's over heating? Is it the moisture sensor not sensing moisture? So, we started by taking off the lid to take a peek inside. What we found was a LOT of lint. So we used the leaf blower several times. Swept up after the dust settled each time. AND THAT'S IT! We figured our dryer saved us from a house fire. So people the lesson of the day is...clean your dryer vent. I can't explain why the door popped opened and frankly don't care. It's working and it didn't cost us anything!

Hello difow - From what you are describing the issue could be related to a damaged hinge or front panel. Consult a professional for an accurate diagnosis and to assist with the repairs.

SOURCE: high efficency dryer won't spin-Frigidaire

Try this. Set the timer. Open the door, press and hold the light switch. Rotate the drum by hand then while still holding the light switch turn on the dryer. If it starts then clos the door while removing your finger quickly. If this problem persists it could be the starter on your motor.

SOURCE: dryer dries in low, all other levels shows dr code

Sounds like the problem is an open high-heat thermal limit switch (some call it a thermostat). It, along with some others, is in the heating element circuit in the back bottom of the dryer.

More info, let me know...

SOURCE: dryer wouldnt turn on its saying door is open

most of the time. its the door switch that causes this. if door is closed and it does not start, its the door switch. try this! unplug power, remove the door switch, hook the wires from switch together. this will make a complete curcuit.put black tape on wires so it wont short out. plug back in. it should work, if it runs ok door switch is bad. good-day !

Kenmore HE5 dryer. Is there an adjustment for the door, it pops open while drying. Appears that the bottom of the door hits before the top, we have to push the top of the door in to get it to latch

if the catch isn't broken sometimes i've seen the hinges out of shape,i open the door stick a screw driver in both sides at the bottom of the door where the hinges are and close the door and push on the top of door, don't go crazy just a couple of light pushes this will make the door close better, hope this helps, look at the plastic catch in the door where the strike goes into,if this is cracked or worn the door will pop open, next time open the door, find the tag and send the full model number

Electrolux dryer eied50liwo door keeps popping open during drying

The latch mechanism is not fulling grabbing and the door pops open. By bending either the door mechanism or the chassis mechanism so parts are tighter you can restore proper operation.

My KitchenAid Dishwasher door won't stay closed. It keeps popping open after a few seconds.

I experienced the same problem after my tension cables broke. The door fell open with such force that it bent the hinges a little. If you've replaced the tension strings (which you should do every 5-8 years) then you don't have to replace the latch. I did and it didn't solve the problem.
Here's the solution:
Put a towel at the bottom of each side of the door by the hinge.
Push the door closed a couple of times to bend back the hinges.
Remove the towels and you're back in action.
Good luck

Rear passenger door won't stay closed

Door latch on door itself is in closed position if it will not close at all. In this case, open door and pull outside handle hard to pop open door latch. If you have door opening at random, door latch needs replacing or door catch on body is loose.

I was washing beach towels and during the rinse/spin cycle the door popped open on my whirlpool duet ht (model GHW9400PL4). I haven't been able to close the door since it opened before the cycle was...

those have a 2 latch system, sounds like the second latch that engages during the spin cycle never quite completed the safety lock , you could try and jumper the latch to see if that would release it, But it seems the secondary latch wasn't working properly in the first place, even the heaviest loads shouldn't pop the door open,

During a drying cycle, the whirlpool duet dryer door pops open, the indicators are flashing and even if I close and restart the cycle, the door pops open every few minutes.

This was a concern on some whirlpool and kenmore dryers. The fix was to replace both of the catches (the part on the dryer front panel ) and the latches (the part on the door) as well as a redesigned door gasket. Im sure if you contact Whirlpool customer assistance they would be able to supply you with a part number for the repair kit....

KitchenAid Dishwasher Door Pops open during cycle

The problem seems to be the loosening of the screws that hold the interior stainless steel skin to the door frame--not the latch.

With the door in the open position you should find a total of twelve screws (5 on each side and 2 on top at each side of the latch). The screws have a particular type of head which may require a trip to the hardware (its a $1,000 dishwasher take the time to get the right screwdriver). They are called TORX screws the size on my dishwasher was a T 15. These type of screw heads were designed to fit automated torque drivers at the factory that set the screws to the proper tension. So some care should be given when you retighten them. Turn until the screw is snug and there no movement of the inner door skin but don't over tighten. Giving it that extra 1/4 turn can be enough to strip the screw out and create a bigger problem.

Yes--you shouldn't have to be doing this to a KitchenAid appliance that cost this much--but I suspect that this will become a feature of periodic maintenance. The heating and cooling generates enough movement that overtime these screws work themselves out. My wife who was the once to make the right diagnosis noticed that the screws at the bottom were almost entirely out.
