Is not showing up in the computer

I have had the drive about two weeks now. I installed it and it showed up under the my computer. But as of yet hadnt really used it for anything. So the other day I went to put a file on it and couldnt find on the computer at all. I have since checked the bios and it is showing up. And since adding it I havent done anything different with my computer.

Go Start> Control Panel> Administrative Tools> Computer Management

    Select Disk Management under Storage

Look to see if your Drive is listed and what the Status, Layout, Type, and File System it has.

Right mouse click on the dive and click on Explore to see if your files come up. If yes, then perform a Change Drive Letter and Path.

Let me know what the status is.

Go to control panel, then administrative tool, then to computer management, then to disk management, check the status of your hard drive or check it on some others system

I've installed the device and the device is working properly, but it doesn't show under devices. What must I do?

Hard drives will not show up in Devices and Printers. You need to open computer manager (type compmgmt.msc in run box)

Try connecting it to a different USB port on your computer.

Try connecting it to a different computer.

If the problem persists, either:

* the USB cable is damaged,

* inside the enclosure, the disk-drive is not functioning
(although the lamp indicates that it is getting electrical power)

* inside the enclosure, the USB-to-disk-drive adapter has failed.

If the warranty is still valid, W.D. will replace it, at no cost to you.

If the warranty has expired, W.D. has a "Customer Loyalty" program; buy a new unit from their web-site, and you can get a discount, as a previous customer.

Or, open the enclosure, and remove the disk-drive, and temporarily connect it as a "slave" disk-drive in a desktop computer, to see if it is working at all.

Or, buy a new, compatible, disk-drive, and mount it into the enclosure, to make a "new" external disk-drive.

My problem is with the HP Personal Media Drive

> When I unplug the media guide, then it doesn't show up on my computer.

That makes sense -- when _not_ physically connected, then it will not show up within "My Computer".

Try a different USB-port on your computer.

Or, connect it to another computer, to see if Windows will detect it, and will assign a drive-letter. If not, then try a third computer -- it could be "dead", if 3 computers cannot detect it.

Install a disk in drive F?

Download this file from PNY to reformat your Flash Drive. It should work after that. Get the file here:

Computer doesn't recognize drive anymore

Advice,

Sounds like you are swapping this external drive between two PC's. Why don't you do this! Get it connected to one of your PC's preferrably your desktop. Once you get it connected and it is able to be read and you can read files or acces it! Share it out, under Windows XP you can share out drives, files, printers etc.

Once you do this both PC's can share this device without you having to swap between PC's manually!
I can walk you through this if you need further help, but if this persists, it sounds like your files are corrupt on this drive you may need to reformat the drive.
