I'm pretty sure if you formatted it, it erased all of your recordings and you won't be able to get them back. That's for about anything you own and reformat it....digital camera sd card, hard drive on video camera...etc

SOURCE: How do you format a RCA Digital Voice Recorder

It has been some time, but if I remember right.

Insert (up to 256Mb) SD card in slot.
Turn the unit on (Press hold > (PLAY button)
Press Menu button
Use >>| (FastForward button) to select from "INT"ernal memory to "EXT"ernal memory
Press STOP button
A message "WAIT" will be displayed.

If I remember correctly, it will ask to format if it needs to. (Use >>| (FastForward button) or |<< (FastRewind button) to select "YES" or "NO".

You can alternately use a PC to format as FAT (Not FAT32) file system.

As you use the unit, it will create FOLDER1....FOLDER9. In fact it will create each folder, each time you go to view any of the 9 folders that aren't already there. Until all 9 folders are created.

I haven't had to format my 256Mb SD card. I just inserted it, and it was fine. (Even ones I had previously used with other data, the DVR will simply create folders "FOLDER1", etc. if not already there, and use them. )

Hello,

the files on your voice recorder is actually corrupted just as the computer is indicating.

I don't know how important these files are to you but I'm afraid you might loose them because they are corrupt.

To fix this problem, you need to format the recorder and by so doing you will loose all your files but the recorder will be okay. You will have to put fresh files on the recorder.

Your computer may have been the one that corrupted the files on your recorder.

To format the recorder, while the recorder is connected to your computer, click start menu, go to computer. You will see a drive representing your recorder, right click on the drive, scroll to format and click it. This will format your drive and your recorder will be fixed.

Note, that you will loose all the files on your recorder in the process of formatting.

Good luck.

Lock/read only card message

Make sure all the files from the memory card have been downloaded and saved to the computer. You are going to need to format the memory card to remove the write protect/read only/lock issue. By formatting this will permanently erase all data from the memory card so you are able to use it again.
To format the card: go to Menu - to Submenu - to Format option - Start - then Start again - Press Menu to initiate the process - When done the recorder will be able to be used for recording purposes again.
