SOURCE: Adding speakers to Fender Passpost 500 Amp system
If you add 8 ohm speakers in parallel then you would be running the amps into a 4 ohm load ...which will overheat and possibly damage them ...... if you wire series then the amps would be loaded to 16 ohms ...which would be ok ..but you will only develop 70 % of the total output power
IE a 100watt would be down to 70 watts
much better to add some seperate powered speakers

Peavey XR 8600?? Well it's 600w per ch. at 4 ohms/per side. So, whichever mode you use (Main, or Main/Monitor) you are best to have a 4 ohm total load for each channel of amplification. Ex.--Mains only, one 4ohm speaker per channel will give you 600W per side. Or two 8ohm speakers per channel in parallel, which makes a 4 ohm total load.
Main/Monitor mode---treat it the same way. one 4ohm, or two 8 ohms parallel. per channel.
Your best situation is to have a 4 ohm total load for each channel of amplification to get your 600W.
Parallel-- 8ohms each / 2 speakers = 4 ohm
SOURCE: We have the XR
It can be bad or loose wire or cut in between the wires causing this. But to confirm this ,try connecting the first speaker to +2/-2 and connect second speaker to +1/-1 and see if both speakers are working or problem is same as before. If both speakers are working then it was loose connection some where and it sorted out.If the problem is same as before then its loose or bad wire causing this. The internal wall wiring will need replacement or will need external wire connections.--------Get this checked. This will help.Keep updated.Thanks.Helpmech.

You best rewire the cabinet to put the two speakers in series. Wire one speaker plus to minus of the other and bring the other lead, one from each speaker to your jack on the cabinet. The amp output impedance is what is set on the switch... for two 8 ohm speakers you would use both jacks to the two speakers BUT ssince you have 4 ohm speakers the ONLY option is for two in series and set the switch to 8 ohms. The amp is ONLY 30 Watts so don't expect too much sound output... You should get a nice CLEAN sound at a reasonable level. If you drive the amp too hard it will clip and you will get garbage.
