Ipurchased a new ignitor for my frigidaire oven and am a bit confused as to why it will not glow. I have the top wire, coming out of the back going to gas safety valve. the bottom wire is goingto corner of oven, i am asuming this is wired correct. could someone please advise me on this issue. Thank you

Your new oven utilizes 220 volts, but it also has some 110 volt features that need a neutral to work properly. Your old oven was wired without the neutral, probably when the house was built. There are 2 answers to your question. #1, no you should have an isolated neutral or common (same thing) wire, so it should have one. #2, if you connect the white on the new oven to the ground wire it will work. The neutral wires are all connected to the grounds at the breaker panel. Look at it if you don't believe me. The ground is there as a safety to you. if you connect the neutral (the white wire on the new oven to ground) you will be eliminating the safety feature on that appliance. So, I do not recommend you connect the white wire on your new oven to the ground wire out of the wall. But if you do it will work, you will just not have any back up protection if there ever is a problem with the electrical on that appliance. I hope this wasn't too confusing, the answer is you will need to wire the oven properly by adding another wire if you want to be completely safe and within electrical codes.

when the power returned there would have been a high voltage which would have blown out the fuse cange the fuse and on it

Tip - do not change the safety valve first even if the ignitor seem "ok" if you gently tap the safety valve and the flame comes on initially but fails to come on after awhile after each"tapping" - the ignitor is the most likely culprit

after pricing the 2 ignitors and a dual saftey valve (could be all) the best price for all is around $225.or more. Doing the labor myself. Im going to just buy another stove. And I think Ill get one with a pilot light(cheaper to fix) and no self cleaning(dont use much anyway if you are carefull with spills. Price? about $270-370. free del.. and haul off. ibojuan40

the gas jet is proably clogged. Try cleaning with oven cleaner, if no luck use a pin on the the gas jet.
