Can I use my router just as a Wireless router with a DSL .

Hello Experts,

I have a Motorola surfboard SBG 9000 Wireless router . Which connects to my cable company for internet . But I wanted to move to DSL but still use the router as a wireless router .

ie : DSL -> DSL modem -> (Connected by a ethernet cable) Motorola Surfboard (WIFI) -> Computer (WIFI)

This would help me a lot else I would have to invest in a Wireless router

I doubt it will work. most times the cable companies give you a modem/router all in one box. the problem is there in no inbound connection to recieve an internet signal other than the cable cord connection. with the dsl modem you will need a seperate router. they cost around $40-50 on avg

I agree with maingame123, the SBG900 is not intended to receive a third party connection and broadcast it via the built-in WiFi.

I do not have any firsthand experience with the particular scenario, but I see no reason that this should work. Sorry :(

Can I use motorola sbg900 wireless cable modem with at&t DSL internet service?

No, the AT&T service must be paired to the service by AT&T and therefore you will need to obtain a DSL modem directly from them. They don't usually charge for the DSL modem and offer the wireless service with their DSL service free of charge.

I have a Motorola SBG 900 router and I need the password for my network to connect my iPod touch

you will need to check the wireless settings of your router.
Is there any computer online using the router.
If not then you will need to connect the computer to the router.
If yes then you can open the router set up page on that computer.
router set up page is the page where you can check all the router settings.

The wireless router's wireless settings need to be configured eg. SSID, encryption etc. and then the wireless card in the laptop needs to be configured with the router's wireless setting so it can connect to the wireless router.

Bridging a Motorola SBG900 to a Speedstream 4200

You can't use the Motorola SBG900 for that. The only way it might work is if the Motorola SBG900 had a 4-port Ethernet switch built into it.

Cant lock my signal was trying to find a alternative way because i lost the disk??? i have a SBG 900 and any one can get on my internet signal

There's another option to configure the security or encryption using your SBG 900

Connect your computer to one of the LAN ports
Access the configuration of the modem (example 192.168.254.1)
The if you got the configuration page open find the wireless settings and configure the WPA or WEP security using your modem.

Need to change the security of my SBG 900 wireless router

Plug your router in with an ethernet connection and type 192.168.100.1 into your browser address bar. This should load the modem login screen. Unless you have changed the username / password they are admin / motorola. From here you can click on wireless and configure the SSID and security setup.

I have a sbg 900 motem and router combined how do i secure it for the internet

The router is a hardware firewall so your systems is already protected from intrusions. The internet can only see the routers i.p address and cannot see anything beyond that.If you want to be bulletproof do this as well. Do all your windows updates and keep them current. Get a good internet protection suite and keep it current.Norton Internet 2009 gets great scores from the experts and unlike old Norton products it is not a rescouce hog.It does all Antivirus,Spyware and Malware, root kit protection, anti phishing and tons more.
