A fridge makes cold air in the freezer only and blows it into the fridge throu a little air door with a small fan, one of your temerature adjustments will open and close this little door and the other ajustment (the thrmostate) will turn on and off the compressor at what ever temperature you have it set for. if the little door is closed to much the cold air can not get into the fridge fast enough to make the temperature cold enough to turn of the thermostate. This will cause items to freeze near the air door as the air comming out of it will be something like -20C. to fix this it sometimes helps to open this little door more... something like "freezer temp warmer" and also to turn the "fridge temp warmer". if that does not do it, then the thermostate may be faulty, to test it slowly turn it down untill the fridge turns off, if it only turns off at the off position, replace it. also one last thing , sometimes the airdoor can frost up and restrict the air from blowing into the fridge, so you can unplug the fridge and leave the doors open for the weekend and let everything thaw out. then set all the controls for normal and plug back in. Make sure you do not leave the unit plugged in or sometimes the little door light can get so hot it may melt the plastic lining in the fridge.

SOURCE: samsung side by side refridgerator making noise and freezing

its a heater cycle problem..the defroster is not working properly. its building up ice in the evaporator that touches the evaporator fan that makes that loud noise but stops when you open a door. it could be either a bad heater, a bad thermo disc or a bad timer.hope i was able to help

SOURCE: Hotpoint Ultima Fridge/Freezer keeps leaking underneath

yes this is probably the source of the problem - the defrost water doesn't flow down the drain.

melt the blockage with hot water till you get free flow down the drain - takes a bit of patience

SOURCE: the fridge part of my fridge freezer keeps freezing everything,

Hello

I have the same problem and have talked to the manufacturer. They said to turn off the appliance for 24 hours then it should be good as new when you switch it back on. Obviously you'll have to find somewhere for your freezer contents. I'm going to try this myself tonight.

The problem is the thermostat, not the drainhole. The thermostat should stop the compressor when a setpoint temperature has been reached, this gives the unit a chance for a small defrost.

Can't solve your problem, but just to report we have exactly the same issue, a huge block of ice forms on the upper rear panel. The compressor seems to be running 24h, not matter where the 'thermostat' is set.

I suspect that there was/are a faulty batch of thermostats. Or (since there is no metal cooling plate to bolt it to) that the T/Stat probe has somehow come adrift from its correct sensing area and is not correctly sensing the temperature inside the fridge.

If I get to the bottom of the problem, I will re-post here.

Hotpoint rla31 motor constantly running/freezing at the back

Your fridge is cooled by the freezer, the thermostat is within the Fridge to tell it to shut off, you might have a bad fan or a build up of frost where the air is sent to the fridge, check where air goes to the fridge when it's running, if you don't feel air flow then something is up, best thing you can do is take everything out and allow the fridge to defrost, at leat 24hrs. then see what happens, if you don't feel air flow after the defrost then you fan is shot and you'll need to replace it.
