Hi ecarter... it means that the maps on your GPS are out of date and that there are newer ones available to you at the website for your gps. Usually there is a fee charged to download the updated maps. The fee varies from one company to the next.
If your GPS is over 3 years old it might make more sense to get a new GPS rather than put money into updating an old one which is no longer under warranty. Joe
Alpine does not have any updates to this 4-5 year old map at this time per Alpine tech support. It is the same out of date mapping as the BT200 - when available, it may be supplied for free... or at a charge from there website - support. Also, having problems with your iPhone 3G syncing your address book. Alpine is having me send in my NVE-P1 and they are replacing the hardware inside so that it will now sync. Also, iPod Touch, and iPhones need at least version 3.0 in order to display video to the W505 unit.
You may purchase a single map update for about $75, or a much better deal is for about $130, up to 4 updates / year can be downloaded for the life of the GPS. Check www.garmin.com for more information, or better yet, talk with Garmin Customer Support:

I have a similar problem where my B200 just blanks right out and doesn't want to come back on until I pull it out of the head for about 1/2 hour! It also did not want to turn on outside of the head at all - I'm assuming dead battery. I phoned support here in Canada and they told me that it might be because the unit is not fully charged while in the head. He suggested that I pull the GPS out and try to charge it using the dedicated AC outlet for it. I'm trying this now! As for the firmware update for the B200, there ISN'T one as of yet. From what I've read, Alpine discontinued the Blackbird B200. Alpine support said that they are working on a newer firmware for the unit but I won't hold my breath if they discontinued the device!
