Memory Hello, everytime I ask a question someone gives me a great answer. I have 2 remaining questions regarding RAM. I would like to know what does ECC and Non ECC mean and does it matter when purchasing RAM. Also does it matter if I install a 512 with a 256, or do they have to match? This is what I currently have in my system: 256MB 333MHz DDR Non-ECC CL2.5 DIMM

1) Total maximum amount for motherboard is 2GB.

2) There are 2 Ram Memory slots.

3) Maximum amount for EACH ram memory slot is 1GB.

Either DDR Sdram at 266MegaHertz, or 333MHz, or 400MHz.
PC2100, PC2700, and PC3200, respectively.

There is no DDR1 and DDR2 slots, in a manner of speaking.

May be marked on your motherboard that way, but stating it that way on a computer product support website = No.

You're going to make someone think, you don't know what you are talking about.

They may think you are referring to DDR Sdram, and DDR2 Sdram, and they know the motherboard only uses DDR Sdram ram memory.

Suggest state Slot 1 and Slot 2; or DIMM 1 and DIMM 2.

SDR Sdram at 133MegaHertz. (PC133)
LOW-density, unbuffered, Non-ECC, 3.3 Volt, 64Meg X 64 chip configuration, Cas Latency of 3.

Suspect Ram Memory you bought as the problem; especially if it is ECC, high-density, SERVER computer ram memory, sold on Eb** all the time.

Getting rid of surplus inventory, that NOBODY really wants.

To answer your question, it uses DDR memory. You refer to it as ddr1. It can handle up to 4GB of PC3200 DDR 400Mhz. RAM

If you are asking if that is what you need then the answer is yes. Your motherboard has two DDR slots which can hold 1GB DDR memory each, with 2GB being the maximum capable.
If you are asking where to buy some new ram sticks. Most stores no longer carry, or have a limited supply of DDR memory. Easiest and cheapest place to buy memory would be online. e.g. Tigerdirect, Newegg, etc.

Your question is a bit vague, but i will answer it to the best of my ability.

For certain operating systems there is limitations on the ram that you can use. So the best advice i can give you, is to go to your nearest computer hardware shop and ask one of the experts there, giving them all the information they need to help you. Take one of your ram chips with you so that they can see exactly what they need to give you if you upgrade.

To answer the question you asked. No the backup battery does not affect the main batteries. It is there to keep the memory electrically refreshed when calculator is turned off. You will know that the backup is depleted or almost depleted if the screen displays RAM CLEARED, everytime you turn the calculator ON.

Now to the calculator not turning ON. IF THERE ARE NO HARWARE PROBLEMs with your calculator (of this I cannot judge for I am no prophet) , it may be that the screen is too light and you cannot see what it displays. If that is the case, you can darken it as follows.
1. Press [2nd] key and release it.
2. Press [ArrowUp] key and release it.
3. Repeat Steps 1 and 2 in sequence, until screen darkins enough. You may have to repeat the sequence several times.

Another important thing to remember is that you should always use the same type of memory modules and never mix and match them with different ones as this could cause system crashes and problems with lots of memory errors. When going to a local store and asking a sales rep for compatible ram they will ask you what is the make and model of your computer and what your processor speed is because your processor speed also determines your bus speed because your ram will not operate above that speed it will simply clock down (if it is rated higher than what your processor speed is), with this information they will look up any compatible ram they may have in stock.
