GE Profile Microwave will not heat

I have a GE Profile Sensor Microwave which has stop heating regardless of setting. All other functions on the unit are working normally. All deplays are normal. Just won't heat.

Model # JE 1860SB 002 Manufacture date was Dec 2001.

What part will I need to replace? Thanks for any advise.

Timer works and counts down, but won't turn on or heat. Convection mode won't work either. Checked fuse and door switches, both good. When it first started doing it, if you hit it it would come on and work. Any Ideas?

Unfortunately, there is no way to tell which part the microwave needs without opening it up for examination. There are a few parts that, if defective, would prevent the oven from heating.

  • a high voltage transformer which passes energy to the magnetron
  • a magnetron which converts high-voltage electric energy to microwave radiation
  • a magnetron control circuit (usually with a microcontroller)
This is NOT a repair that you would want to attempt yourself. The labor for the repair would cost a minimum of $50 and shouldn't exceed $100. You'll also have to pay for the necessary part if it's still available from the manufacture or their parts distributor.

Microwave not heating

OK, if everything, including the fan, is working, this will confirm Magnetron failuer. you cannot reset the function of a failed Magnetron heating unit. replace this failed device asap if possible.

Ge jvm1870 it won't heat anything, all other items work

Ok, if this unit has stopped heating, this will confirm a major fault within the Magnetron. this device is responsible for the heating affect and, you will need to replace this damaged part in order to restore proper heating functions in you microwave oven.

Everything works except heat

Sounds like you've had a failure in the microwave portion of the unit.

Microwave not heating problems when the timer/controller board appears to function properly, are related to the following components -

1) Diode
2) Capacitor
3) Transformer
4) Magnetron

Ge profile microwave doesn't seem to be heating food real hot. during the last bag of popcorn we tried to pop it never even started popping it, and the microwave stopped and said on the screen...

On GE models, "SENSOR ERROR" appears on the display when:
  • Using the sensor feature, the door was opened before steam could be detected. Do not open the door until stream is sensed and time is shown counting down on the display.
  • Steam was not detected in the maximum amount of time. Use Time Cook to heat for more time.
The first thing I would suggest is a hard reset. Unplug the unit for a minute or so. Then plug it back in, set the clock and try again.

If that doesn't work, leave it unplugged for maybe an hour. Then let us know if the hard reset does not fix it.

Otherwise, your sensor may have failed.
