SOURCE: Yet another stitch tension problem...

Thank you, thank you! I just tightened the screw on my bobbin case and that instantly fixed my thread tension problem. How on earth are you supposed to know about the little screw?! I thank you so much for the tip!

SOURCE: tension on stitches

Loose bottom stitches mean the UPPER tension has a problem. Pull the thread through the tension assembly and test it to make sure the tension is working correctly.
(To do this test, adjust your tension setting to normal or medium or 5 or something in the middle. Raise the presser foot and pull the thread through the tension. It should pull easily!! Lower the presser foot and pull the thread. It should pull noticeably harder.) If it does not work this way( the tension stays loose) you will need to set the tension to Zero, open the discs with a small screwdriver and remove the lint or thread which is stuck in there.

SOURCE: CONSEW 206RB5 TOP THREAD NOT FORMING STITCHES AND BREAKING

you have your thread tension too tight that's why it is pulling the bottom stitch all the way through it looks good from the bottom but not good on top. Its pulled the stitch all the way through the material.
I had my own upholstery shop 18 yrs and tension gets you every time.Just loosen the top tension.

SOURCE: Zigzag stitch pulling tight, looks wrong

Try adusting the bobbin thread instead of the top. Always make sure to insert the bobbin so the thread is pulling in a clock wise direction. Both threads top and bobbin should have about the same resitance when pulled.

I have a Euro-pro model 6131 sewing machine.I just oiled and cleaned it. I am trying to find the standard factory settings i.e stitch length, stitch width, tension, and stitch setting, etc.

The only factory standard settings that you need to worry about is the top tension and the bobbin tension. The standard factory top tension is the midway point between high & low numbers. That is the ideal tension setting for most fabrics, thread, and needles. However, that is also adjusted based on what you are sewing. Bobbin tension you should leave as is unless there are issues that the top tension will not resolve. The other settings you mention are all adjustable based on what you want to do with your machine, ie straight vs zig-zag stitch, etc.--no standard factory setting.

The lower thread on this machine continues to bunch up, no matter what we try.

Please check whether it is the bobbin thread or the top thread that is messing up. If it's under the fabric, it is 99% the top thread and is called bird nesting or thread nesting.

Remove the top thread from the machine.
ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot and rethread from the beginning.
Verify the thread path is correct.
Also check that the bobbin is loaded and turning the correct direction in the bobbin case.
Now, retest the machine.

You may need to tweak the tension to get it where it looks best.

I have a EURO -PRO model 9110. The bobbin tension is not correct. The top thread can be easily pulled out after sewing. How do I adjust the bobbin tension?

Hi janna

have you tried adjusting the top tension first?
if you have a drop in bobbin then it has to be adjusted at a sewing shop
the bobbin case you take out of the machine you can, using a small screw driver,,here's how
lower bobbin tension--
to test the bobbin tension,
remove the bobbin case & bobbin,,
hold it by suspending it by the thread,,
**** it once or twice,,
if the tension is correct, the thread will unwind by about an inch or two
if the tension is too tight, it does not unwind at all
if the tension is too loose, it will drop too much
to adjust turn small screw on the side of the bobbin
to the left is tighten
to the right is loosen

I'm sewing a zig zag stitch and the underside is a perfect zig zag and the upper side looks like it should be the underside....how can I fix this so that the beautiful zig zag is on the top?

FIRST > Make sure your bobbin case is threaded correctly...

NEXT
For normal straight sewing the top tension should be around 5, for zigzag or satin stitch you need to lower your upper thread tension a bit. Try it at 4, if it still pulls your bottom thread to the top try it at 3 etc...

Can't get thread tension right on my Euro-Pro 7130

the top seam is actually the bobbin thread. dots on the underside means that the top tension is too tight. you may have a piece of thread or something gummy caught between the upper tension disks.

all machines thread the same. TTN tension, take up, needle.
Beginning with the spool guide the thread through the thread guides to the tension assembly. Pull the thread through the tension assembly and test it to make sure the tension is working correctly.

Lower the presser foot and pull the thread. It should pull noticeably harder.) If it passes this test, continue up through the take up lever, then down through the thread guides to the needle. Make sure your needle is fully inserted and turned the correct way.( If you load your bobbin case from the left side, the needle rule is normally FLAT to the RIGHT is RIGHT. There are some exceptions. If you have a newer style drop in bobbin or your bobbin case loads in the front then the rule is FLAT to the BACK.
