My Hotpoint condenser tumble dryer TCD980 won't dry.

A beeper keeps sounding and a message telling me to empty the water bottle keeps coming up. The water container is empty, the filter is clean and the condenser has been cleaned. Any ideas please?

I am not familiar with this particular unit, but I have a condensing dryer (Malber) which pumps out the water by itself. I am guessing that your unit requires you to empty a bin manually. Even if the bin is empty, I think the unit thinks it needs to be emptied and that is why the dryer will not work to give you hot air. If you do have such a bin, it might have a weight switch which the unit uses to detect if the bin needs emptying. See if the weight switch is working. The same weight switch idea is used on dehumidifiers.

SOURCE: HOTPOINT AQUARIUS CONDENSER TUMBLE DRYER CTD40

There are three water reservoirs - one at the bottom behind the condenser, a second at the back bottom of the machine and then a third at the top which is the one you would normally pull out to empty.

There is a hole at the bottom of the filter in the first reservoir (at the back of the condenser) which leads to the second reservoir at the back. If the hole gets clogged up with lint/muck then the reservoir at the back does not fill up.

So to solve this, unplug the machine, take out the condenser (front left bottom of the machine) reach through to the back and mop up the spare water with a towel and check that the hole to the back reservoir - you can feel this it is towards the right side at the back of the machine is clear from muck.

Once you have cleared it, water will flow to the second reservoir and then (once you switch on the machine) up to the main removeable reservoir at the top.

Hopefully this helps. GB

Common faults -
1 The heating elements can fail(meaning open circuit)
2 There are cut-outs (T.O.C's) thatmight need resetting
3 The thermostats (stats) can tripout or burn out (meaning opencircuit)
4 Moderntumble dryers also have sensors and pcb's (Printed circuitboards) thesehaveprograms that can fail and circuitry although most should produce an errorcodeshowing you were the fault is.
5 Faultyconnections and burned wires may also bethe fault.

Empty water light, empty condenser

I experienced the problem with a hotpoint TCYM 750, with the red empty water light failing to switch off. After removing the filter and cleaning it, cleaning the condenser and drying anywhere I had access to the machine still didn't heat and the light remained on. Reading the post about the machine having 3 reservoirs it struck me that one of the reservoirs may be hard to access. So I unplugged the machine and tipped it onto its front. The reservoir drained, I pushed the machine back upright and cleared up some water around the condenser. The drier now works properly and the empty water light is off - job done!

I had this issue and the answer above about tipping your dryer / cleaning the condenser worked a treat for me. So thank you to whoever posted it. And don't forget to clean your filter, bottom front, regularly. I keep forgetting this and am sure it probably contributed to the problem.

Dryer not heating up

I hate to tell you but get ready for more problems with this drier, it has a bad track record. In some cases cleaning the condensor out and drying the unit well will allow the unit to function again. Once a month you need to empty the condenser unit, this is under the bottom panel at the front of the tumble dryer, you simply pull the panel down, undo the condenser and pull it out (it is normal for there to be some water in the tubes when you do this), you then have to flush the condenser by pouring water through it in either your sink or tub. Make sure that there is plenty of room around the drier and empty the water container often. This curcuitry of this unit it sensitive to high humidity and can cause the unit to not function properly. So with condensing dryers you have to work on keeping them clean. Let me know how it goes. Later DRRXR
