Yes, you can change the CPU, but your Motherboard will only support certain processors, Take a look at this Acer Support, you will see the compatible CPU's: http://support.acer.com/acerpanam/desktop/0000/Acer/AspireT690/AspireT690sp2.shtml Remember : Your machine's component work with one another, within parameters, one component,CPU, will not give you the improvement you might think. CPU, Memory, Graphics Card, Etc.,Upgrades, require more Power/Watts, therefore a new PSU. Which create more heat, new fan. One relies on the other. Do your research, their's a lot more to it than replacing one component. Do a comparison, what will all the components cost, to a new System? The prices for new Good Systems , are low due to slow sales of Desktops/Laptops.

SOURCE: Aspire T690 memory upgrade trouble

Check the Acer web site and make sure U are putting in the correct type of DDR2 ram. Even though they are called DDR2, there are different types, i.e. 5300, 5600, etc.

SOURCE: What PSU will work with my Acer T690?

Any new ATX PSU will do.

Prices variate, but an 500W PSU is good for this purpose and medium in budget terms.

SOURCE: My Computer which is PC Desktop Acer Power FH,

upgrade the video..if its "on board" which is to say it is integrated onto the man board, you might still be able to purchase an expansion video card if you have the available slot for it. Be aware there are different kinds of slots(and corresponding cards)AGP,PCI,PCI-e so be sure you get the right one

Unable to remember password for erecovery for Acere Aspire T690

There is usually a 3 pin jumper near a coin type battery. The setting the umper is on know is nrm ( normal ) and the position to move it to is rst or bios or something like that. Putting that jumper on that position will clear out your BIOS and take away passwords ( normally ) there are some who use a jumper specifically for clearing password. This is rare but look in your manual anyhow.
The jumper should be moved for about 30 sec. then put back where it was nrm or it won't boot up. You will now have to set your date and time and any other things you've changed in BIOS. Voila. Remember not to password things again.

When turned on,makes long buzz, no video, rest of pc still runs

Do you mean beep? Beeping may occur due to RAM corruption (indicated by three long beeps). Failure of input or output devices may also cause beeping. first unplug the RAM, if the same beep continues, then the culprit is RAM. if not, then replug it and unplug the KeyBoard. do the same with the rest of the I/O devices. Also try to put ur processor in ur frens PC, and vice versa, then u'll know if ur processor or the motherboard is not working.
