Take a fine file or sand paper to the connections this usually works.

SOURCE: When we inserted a new game cartridge (Pet Pals

its not recognizing the game, contact is probably dirty. take an eraser and rub the contacts of the cartridge and get them super clean, blow out ALL the debris and that should fix it.
good luck!

I gave my son a leapster explorer about a month now and it's volume just stopped working and it wont hear anything.

Hello,
there are three basic reasons why the leapster explorer won't bring out sound.
1. Defective speaker
The speaker of your leapster explorer maybe defective, this can make it not bring out any sound. Disassemble the leapster explorer, check the speaker part, test the speaker with a AA battery. If you hear any sound using the battery, then it means there is nothing wrong with the speaker.
2. Loose wire connection
Disassemble the leapster explorer, check the wires connecting the speaker to the board. Check for any wire cut, or loose connection which can cause the speaker not to bring out sound. . 3. Sound IC/Card/Board
If non of the above is the cause of the problem, then it means the leapster explorer is having a defective sound ic/board/card. There is an IC on the board of the leapster explorer which is responsible for sound. If this ic has a shot, there won't be any sound. If this be the cause, I think it's high time to took the leapster explorer to a repairman because this requires skill.
I hope the above is clear. If not, please let me know for further assistance.
Regards.

New batteries installed and leapster learned will not turn on. Is there any way to reset it? I even tried new/different batteries that are brand new. We have an 11 hour trip tomorrow!!! Ahhh...

With new batteries the leapster should of turned on. Take the batteries out and look on the contacts inside where the batteries would normally go. See if there any corrosion or anything sticking to the contacts. If it is then clean it with a rag and glass cleaner and then try new batteries again, if it doesn't work then you know the mainboard inside is bad. Also if nothing is on the contacts and you know for sure the batteries are new then the mainboard would still be the culprit. At that point you would have to buy a new leapster because there is no parts available for it. If its under warranty bring it back to the store where you got it so they can get you another one.

Leapster 2 powers up to warning screen and then powers off. Batteries are new and all contacts appear to be clean.

Connect it via USB to your PC/laptop. It'll connect to the Leapster website and appear to update firmware. Once it is finished, it will let you know to disconnect. After that it should work. I had the same problem and did this, and now it's working fine.

Leapster wont turn after changing batteries

if there is corrosion from old batteries, you will need to neutralize the acid. take an old toothbrush and some baking soda with a little bit of water and brush the coil and convex area of the copper connector.
Leapster will also offer you a new one at 1/2 the price if you agree to ship back your old broken one.
You will need to get their phone number off the net.

Power goes out (new batteries) or starts making funny noises, screen goes crazy and turns off. Leapster 2

The item may be faulty if it is new. Otherwise some batteries are not a good enough quality to run certain electronics.

Leapster 2 unit turns on, warning msg re. seizures and flashing lights stays for a few seconds then shuts off. Has new batteries. my daughter has the same problem with hers it turns on and brings up an...

We have 3 Leapsters. The old green model and 2 newer models. Our green one started doing that not long after having it. But it still works and if it shuts off, then we just turn it back on again. When I called up c/s for Leapster, they sort of make it difficult to return. And then I was not promised a new one, but it could be new or refurbished. I let it go. Now w/ the 2 new models, I believe this has happened. I've questioned if my kid's are accidentally hitting the power button. I have seen the green one power off before. I purchased the $10 plug in's. So worth it. No more batteries. And we haven't had any issues. So perhaps it is the batteries. Call up Leapster though and see what they have to say. Good luck! :)

Leapster not powering on

I have never used the Leapster before, But I researched it a bit and discovered that it uses "AA" Batteries. Were the rechargeable batteries you used before designed for the Leapster or were they older Ni-Cad (Nickel Cadmium) style batteries? Older Ni-Cads put out a slightly higher voltage than standard (1.7v) as opposed to the standard 1.5v. This could possibly cause problems. If you have only had it for a few months than it should be warranty protected. Hope this helps. Cheers!
