Zoom button I got a Sony DSC-W55 as a gift xmas last 07. Recently the zoom switch has become 'sticky' and not springing back like it shoud do, sometimes its wont even move. My mum also had the same camera brought for her at the same time and now has the exact same fault. Is it something this model is known for?

You can't. The DSC-W55 does not allow zooming while recording a video. See the second bulleted item under "Using the zoom" on page 15 of the manual.

this problum is related with optic zoom lenz assy its not work propally so thats why screen shows access problum pleae go to your nearst sony service centre & fix the problum or repair optic zoom assy

the problem is that the lens is out of alignment. if its not making grinding sounds try manually help the lens to reseat itself. if that doesnt work its not ecomical to repair unit cuz parts and labor are about 120-130 dollars.

The resolution of the photo you take determines how grain shows up as you zoom into the Photo, So taking a 10 megapixel photo on optical zoom or no zoom will give you a sharper picture than when you use both the optical and digital zoom to grab your picture. The digital zoom uses the centre of your CCD picture imager rather than the whole CCD so with less elements to your picture when you take it gives you blockiness sooner when you zoom in on the image. I am guessing your friend has digital Zoom turned off in settings to prevent the Graining showing upon magnification. Good light and a steady camera will give you the best results.

    The optical lens bolck assymbly need replacement,Because the zoom motor get malfunctioning.For this you have to contact any SONYSERVICE CENTRE nearby to you.

turn on and take hold of end of lense
then gently pull and twistyou may hear it click but dont force it. then turn off and on again this should solve the problem.

Take battery out await two mintes and put battery back in, this should reset the camera.
