Yes, it is a switching power supply meaning that it automatically detects 120v (US) or 240v (EU) voltage. The only thing you might need is an adapter to convert the actual plug in from US to EU standards; they can be picked up for just a few dollars.

To reset the BIOS password read the information from this link.

In case of your laptop the easiest method would be using software from Hiren's Boot CD as it's pretty hard to open it up and reach for the CMOS battery or the jumper and I wouldn't recommend doing it especially if it's under warranty.

Would any 16volt ac adapter be ok to charge my PCG-VX89 vaio notebook?
you can use any laptop AC adapter DC output-16V and 4A (current). if its jack size natch your laptop DC jack.
if the adapter DC current less than 4A (over 2.5A at least) you should only make the battery charging without laptop turn on!!!

Hi Al,

A badly repaired AC charger can damage an expensive laptop. For this reason Sony does not distribute the connecctor alone.

You can buy an original power adapter for a low price, see here: 19.5V 7.7A Power supply Charger adaptor Sony.

Alternatively find a local spare seller and buy a DC connector with this specs:

Connecter size:
Internal Diameter: 6mm
External Diameter: 4.4mm
