I have a Maytag Neptune TL which stops at the spin cycle and does not drain. In addition, it has recently started making a terrible high-pitched screeching noise. I pulled the pulley and clutch assembly as was suggested on other posts; it did show signs of rust. When I disassembled it the end the coil/spring inside appeared to be bent and there was a loose pin in there as well. It would seem this could be the culprit. My concern is the replacement part is $166; I'm not sure if 1) this is certain to be the fix and 2) since there is rust present my tub seal could be bad and do the same to a expensive replacement part. I'm temped to try to "unbend" the end of the coil and clean/lubricate the existing clutch. Problem is I'm not sure where that loose pin goes and afraid I may not have re-assembled the clutch correctly. Does anyone know of a cheaper replacement part or recommendation on how to proceed? Thanks.

Travioso, there was two service flashes out on this model concerning the seal and bearing which means they had an issue with this washer. The howling noise you are hearing is the bearing and will need the new designed triple seal and bearing kit. This should be covered under your warranty, I believe it is 5 years. The numbers for the service flashes are TDL-0048A-B. Call Maytag and inquire about these service flashes, these should be covered. Catriver.

The clutch needle bearings may need to be lubed, this was my fix;
I just did a repair on my FAV6800AAW by lubricating the needle bearings in the clutch pulley hub, the tub displacement sensor checked OK per the service manual check. I was getting dc/uc errors in the spin cycle, washer was purchased in 7/05. I have basic mechanical skills and used a socket wrench to remove clutch pulley, just follow the service manual removal steps to remove the clutch pulley. Pull the plastic cover off the clutch pulley and inspect the spring, clean/lube needle bearings and the clutch hub coupler that drives spinner shaft. I used WD40 I may need to re-lube down the road with a good light grease. It took a few tries for me to get the clutch pulley to stay on after re-install and power up, getting the clutch pulley seated properly is the trick. I did not remove the washer tub for this fix, I believe I saw a posting where someone did. I just leaned the washer back to get a better reach angle, it is a tight work area. I did not want to junk 4 yr old $1k machine with out trying a fix. If you want to work on this model get the service manual, I found a link on this site, good luck!

I would remove the pulley and lay it on a flat surface and see if it is bent because the bearing is pressed into the tub at the factory and changing that rear tub assy is a 3 hour 2 man job for someone who does it all the time.But if you have a bad bearing that was that far out of range that washer would sound like a jet gearing up for take off out of your laundry room.
Make sure the top springs are in place and the struts are working properly but I'm guessing the delivery guys removed the shipping bolts before they were supposed to and that pulley got bent in the move.

Hello rockhead255 ,
I'm an owner like you and will try to help.
Error code 10 states Unbalance or cabinet hit detected during final spin, which prevented the spinner from exceeding 500 rpm
Did you notice if you took some large tub swings as the washer tried to spin up?
I suspect a Clutch malfunction. Pump the water out of the tub with the Board Output Test with the drain pump in service mode. With the wash tub empty open the lid and see if you can rotate the wash basket CCW with one finger. You mentioned “”Tub does not turn by hand””. Is that in the CCW direction?
You should be able to rotate the wash basket with your pinky finger with very little force. The wash basket will not rotate CW. What amount of rotational resistance do you detect in the CCW direction? With the error 10 reported I would drop the clutch out of the machine per my step by step procedure at this post. Try the One-Way roller clutch bearing clean up and re-lube as I discuss in that post and see if you can restore the machine to normal Spin operation. Once you drop the clutch out of the machine we will have a better feel for the issue.
You can try the TDS check in the SM but I feel it is a Clutch issue at this point of troubleshooting. Good troubleshooting using the machines diag code listing.
Post back if you havd need additional questions or help.

Clutch issue and possible time for a tub seal replacement
Google this for a post that covers the Clutch removal and inspection/repair;
""Neptune TL Washer FAV6800AWW"" you will find the Service Manual in post 5 of that sticky.
Google this for Outer Tub bearing rebuild;"" FAV6800A/FAV9800A Outer Tub bearing replacement""
I no longer post on this site no way to post a Sticky.
If you want to DIY the repair Google this phrase ""Sticky: Neptune TL Washer FAV6800AWW""" Read the post Part 1; DC or UC unbalance error codes in Spin Cycle what is causing this issue? Part 2 for the fix action.
Post your issue in the repair forum not in the Sticky. Please include your Model Number i.e. FAV6800A or FAV9800A and I will help you.
