I have a frigidare Gallary Front loading washing machine...model number FWT647GHSO. We purchased it in May of 2000. I have four kids so I do A LOT of laundry. In the last few months, especially after running a load with hot water, the clothes come out ruined they are so dirty. There are some dark brown streaks all over some of the clothes and areas that look like the clothes have been washed in mud on other clothes. Some of the clothes look fine and they all smell fine. Around Christmas I ran a few loads through with simple green thinking that the I must have washed a work shirt covered in boiler grease and it seemed to fix the problem however it is back. Some of the clothes have come clean upon further washing but might have new spots on them. I am at a loss. My husband wants to look at it but I don't know what to look for. Does anyone know what is going on. This just won't cut it. I have four little kids who need clean clothes for school and such. I have started to have the same problem. I've had my front load model GLTF1240AS0 since 2002. There are dirt smudges on some of the clothes but not all, the dirt seems to be coming back in the washer as the clothes are spotted just like the drum of the machine.
The problem with your front load washer is a broken rear bearing. If you remove the rear panel, you will see brown "gunk" all over.
If you want to repair it on your own, order this:

SOURCE: clothes are dirtier after washing...
go to your local appliance store and ask for "Affresh" washer cleaner. works excellent. If hubby need to get into the machine have hime clean out the pump. You probably have **** in there thats also contributing to the problem. good luck

I have a Frigidaire GLTF1040A ith a date of 6/03 on the tag in the door. I purchased it new in '03 or '04. I had five teenagers and have used the washer to do at least 5-6 loads a week. My loads are never bigger than a medium sized load. In the last couple of months, I have begun to get black marks on my clothing. It almost appears to be grease or dirt. It doesn't come out on every wash...maybe every 5th or 6th load. When I rewash the clothing, the stains do not come out easily, if at all. By the time I see the marks, I have already dried the clothes, allowing the stains to set in even more. I may end up throwing away the stained articles. I've tried running bleach through the washer but to no avail. The washer has made quite a bit of noise when it goes into the spin cycle for a few years now. I'm wondering if perhaps the bearings are shot and grease might be periodically getting into the drum somehow. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
It is the same...is it the bearings? if so what is repair cost? is it worth it? thank you
