Bobbin thread is balling up in the bobbin case

Generally, when sewing machine issues appear on the top of the fabric, it is an indication of a problem with the bobbin/bobbin thread. Issues on the bottom of the fabric are generally top-thread related. AVOID using old or bargain bin thread. Try changing bobbins. Is it the correct bobbin? Make sure the thread is wound smoothly on the bobbin and no threads protrude outside the bobbin edge. Check that the bobbin is installed turning the correct direction and the bobbin case is threaded correctly. Also, the bobbin tension may need to be adjusted (probably a last option before having it serviced). If adjusting the bobbin tension, be sure to mark the tension screw setting BEFORE changing anything and then adjust only in 1/8-1/4 turn increments. A slight possibility is that the bobbin case is old and needs to be replaced.

Easy peasy, once you know the problem and how to fix it. It's called "bird nesting" or "thread nesting" or what I refer to as thread "barfs."

Install a brand new needle.
Remove all the thread from the machine.
**ALWAYS RAISE** the presser foot and rethread the top thread.
Verify the top thread path is correct.
Install and thread the bobbin case, make sure it is correct.
Set the top tension to the midway point.

Now retest your machine. Birds nests gone? You may need to tweak the top tension because the factory standard changes due to age and use.

FWIW, problems appearing under the fabric are an issue of the top thread. Thread problems appearing on top of the fabric is a bobbin issue.

WHY IS THREAD BUNCHING UNDERNEATH MY FABRIC

Try these suggestions
1. Change the needle--use a needle that's for the fabric being sewed
2. Rethread the machine--top --make sure to use every thread guide
3. try a different bobbin--make sure bobbin is inserted correctly into the bobbin case
& make sure the bobbin is turned the correct way in the bobbin case
4. make sure the thread has not come off the thread take up lever
5. Clean under the needle plate & in the bobbin area for lint or threads
6. Check to make sure the bobbin is not warped or damaged
7. Make sure the bobbin case is correctly in the machine,, if it's a top loading bobbin you may need to have the bobbin case checked to see if it's damaged or see if the hook and hook race has a problem
8. Also could be a timing problem, and the machine would need to be checked

Are you threading the bobbin in correctly? the right size thread and needle for the fabric?

is it possible that the needle is in backwards?

if not then it is possible the machine is out of time & needs to be serviced

It very well could have a burr in on your bobbin case, If, it was me, I would take it to Sears sewing machine department and ask them what they think it could be. They sometimes have new bobbin cases right there for you to buy, depending how big your Sears is. It won't cost you anything, at least to find out from the saleman.

Check your bobbin area. Make sure you have put the bobbin in the case with the H logo up and the thread pulls off the spool in a counter clockwise motion. Make sure the bobbin is sitting in the case and threaded through the "catch" on the bobbin case. Then leave a long piece of thread from the bottom, holding the end of the top thread, lower the needle for one revolution using the handwheel. Does the top thread catch the bobbin thread and pull it to the top? This is done without fabric. Your checking to determine if the top thread catches the bobbin thread and pulls it to the top. IIf it does not, it is most likely hook/needle timing. f it does, gently pull on the bobbin thread and determine if it pulls through with a little resistence (checking bobbin tension). Make sure you are using correct needle -- Schmitz or Inspira needles are recommended (Universal size 80 is standard). Make sure you are using Husqvarna Viking made for your machine -- original ones were green but there are some new colored ones but all have the Husqvarna logo on them. Could be needle/hook timing. With machine off do the following to check timing -

remove bobbin and bobbin case.
push needle all the way to the left.
Turn handwheel toward you watching the needle and bobbin housing hook. The point of the hook should line up right above the eye of the needle.

If not timing, clean bobbin area and thread cutter area, removing lint and thread.
Check bobbin tension, should get slight resistance when pulling thread.
Make sure using only Husqvarna Viking bobbins -- most are green but they have new colors now. All will have the Husqvarna logo on them (an H). Make sure the bobbin is unwinding counter clockwise when going through the bobbin case.
Remove fabric. Pull extra long bobbin thread (about 3 inches). Hold upper thread tail in left hand, turn handwheel toward you for 1 revolution. Is the bobbin thread caught by the top thread and pulled through the opening of the needle plate?

If you are still unable to sew without thread balling up, take to an authorized Husqvarna Viking dealer for service or have them send to Husqvarna Viking (SVP) Technical Service Dept for repair. are you doing embroidery? if so turn off jump stitch cutting if possible. is the machine threaded correctly (pull needle thread out of machine and thread again with presser foot raised.

check for foreign matter in needle tension assembly. ensure there is sufficient needle thread tension.

the thread you see caught up underneath the fabric will be needle thread and indicates insufficient needle thread tension or something preventing the needle thread from being pulled up into the fabric (maybe a damaged bobbin case, or bobbin case position finger, or damaged needle plate hole).

Sounds like you have to take off the throat plate and clean out threads under it.  Sometime they ball up and prevent the needle from going down and catching the bobbin thread. You can't see themuntil you take off the plate.  Follow the directions.  It is easy.
