Maytag mmv4205bas microwave making very loud noise, has burned plastic smell and there is little black burned flaky pieces.

It has been making loud noise off and on for a few months but only lasted a couple seconds or I could stop and start it again and the noise would stop. Now the noise is constant and very strong smell and there are little black pieces that kind of look like ash. Definitely not a humming noise.

my guess would be the wave cover. sometimes they smoke and makes sparking sounds. does it still heat food?...if it does, then its not the magnetron.

SOURCE: MAYTAG MMV4205BAS Running but not heating

If the food in the cooking compartment is not heating at all, then you may have one of several components related to microwave energy generation that have failed or became disconnected internally.
Magnetron Tube, HV Capacitor, Filament Transformer or any number of sensors that disable power to the system. The control board could also cause the system to noty function correctly.. You wanted general inputs.. there ya go.. LOL
Not sure I told you anything you didn't already know but you should ask the tech what he did after he gets it going...

Rick

SOURCE: We have an MMV5165AAB Microwave oven, installed

the unit inside the microwave that heats called the "magnetron" has gone bad or the circuits that power the magnetron have failed. if its under warranty still, send it back to the manufacturer. if not you can call some repair shops and see how much it would be to service it, but its most likely going to be cheaper to purchace a new microwave since they are relatively cheap these days. microwaves are throw away product now days, they dont make them to last anymore, i hope this helps and good luck to you

SOURCE: My over the stove maytag microwave makes noise and

If there is no heating please do not switch on unless you have confirmed the fault. The burning can be the magnetron or the capacitor. It is possible that the Magnetron is faulty, the temperature cut off is faulty or the main capacitor is short. It is also quite possible that insect can get into the oven and create soft spots. When you switch on these will create a short and make the voltage jump and in the long run damage the magnetron.
So Remove cover after disconnecting , check for dirt/moisture in the cabin, if so wipe clean and dry, check the magnetron and area clean and use an jet air to clean off.
Make sure that the program controller is working if not check power - step down supply, the pads are responding- if not faulty pads- or the door switches, if contact is not through the microwave will not work.

Now keeping clear of the microwave, switch on, use a cup of water inside to test.
If you notice any sparks shut off as the magnetron or the main HT capacitor can be faulty. replace with same type.
If there is heating without any issues, you can use the microwave safely

SOURCE: We were using the microwave the other night and it

The loud noise and no heat means that the magnetron has failed. It the part that generates the microwaves that heat the food. When it fails it shorts out, causing the transformer to heat up. That is what was causing the burning smell. The cost of a replacement magnetron is around $130-150 range so it may not make sense to have it fixed.

I have a maytag model mmv1164ws when you turn it on makes a buzzing and smells like something burning!

Something is burning, there are high voltage parts in a microwave oven and they wear out. You probably need a new diode. Part number WPW10492276 google it
tip

Maytag MMV4205 door won't stay shut.

After tearing apart my microwave, I found a little spring broke off the latches. Open the door to the microwave, pop off the plastic piece that the latches on the door go through. You will see a spring behind the latch. If the spring is not connected to the latch it won't operate properly. The spring was held onto the latch with a tiny plastic piece that broke off. An easy solution instead of buying a new latch is to heat up one side of the spring without burning yourself and melt it through the latch piece where it was originally connected then put everything back together.
Hope this helps,

Burning smell and loud grinding noise

If that grinding noise sounds a little like gargling into a coffee cup, that's a defective magnetron.

You can download GE owner's manuals and installation instructions here.

Microwave makes a loud buzzing noise and emits a burning plastic smell

This indicates the magnetron has failed, buzzing sound and odor are classic symptoms. It is cheaper to replace than have it repaired.

Maytag Rangehood Microwave Loud Humming

Sounds like you just fried your magnetron. Normally when they go bad, they make a very loud noise like what you described. The smell concerns me because you may have ruined the waveguide as well. If the magnetron burns through the protective painted surface of the waveguide, the waveguide is ruined. In most microwave ovens this means replacing the entire unit because the waveguide is not replaceable. Putting a new magnetron in a damaged waveguide will result in the same arcing and eventual failure. In addition to the magnetron, the following components are part of the same high voltage network: HV Transformer HV Diode HV Capacitor Magnetron Thermal Cut-Out Any one of these components could have also been damaged. I DO NOT recommend taking any voltage measurements inside the HV network. Potentials of over 4000 volts can be reached and make it very dangerous for the do-it-yourselfer. Taking resistance readings with the unit unplugged is strongly encouraged. If you decide to pursue a repair, inspect the magnetron tip and inside of the waveguide first. If the magnetron is melted and/or there are burn marks inside the waveguide, a new microwave may be a in order. This actually may be a better option than an expensive repair. I hope you find this advice helpful.
