SOURCE: Nintendo DS Lite not reading some games
this is a problem with the pins inside could be dirty or dusty ether way you will need to get a cleaning fluid ie 100% alcohol cleaning fluid us a clean cotton bud inside the slot and use gently as not to damage pins, if the pins are heavy soiled you may need to get a fiberglass tipped pen wich is used to clean up poor contact areas on boards and other electrical circuits
hope this helps if unsure get in touch with nintendo they will prob fix it for you for free go here > http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/repair/

SOURCE: Nintendo DS Lite games won't work!
my son's DS had the same problem this week. With the DS turned off, ,I pushed the game in and held it right down while turning the DS on. The game registered and I let go of the game and it clicked in to place. The next time I tried the game it registered straight away. Good luck!

make sure that the carteidge is clean, and the cavity inside the DS is clean as well...you can do this by putting isopropyl alcohol on a qtip...make sure you let it dry before powering on your DS again.
SOURCE: Nintendo DS Lite - Problem w/ Console not Recognizing Game Cartridge
The problem is that over time the console pins that contact the game catridge gold contacts bend and no longer contact the catridge. DSi has solved this problem by adding a spring that will push the catridge firmly against the pins. So Nintendo must have recognized the problem (a serious design flaw worthy of a class law suit since 4 DS lite at home had a similar problem. I fix the problem in one of the old "broken" consoles by adding a "bumper" made of folded paper on the catridge, opposite to the contacts. This rudimentary added pressure on the pins fixes the game freezing and all the games work now. I feel chated by Nintendo after spending over $600 to replace broken consoles. They usually break after about a year.
