Got an ONN TV and an ONN soundbar. Hooked up via RCA cable. TV audio in PCM mode. Soundbar in AUX mode. Can't get any sound from soundbar. What have I missed?

PCM mode is a digital audio file that should be sent to the soundbar via an optical or coaxial digital audio cable. The coaxial digital audio cable uses an RCA plug but not the L/R stereo channels of analog audio. The aux input is usually the 3.5 MM cable from a computer, CD or MP3 player or a cell phone or tablet.

First, which type of RCA cable is connected between the sound bar and the TV? Second, are you sure that the TV connection is an audio out? (A number of recent TVs have only one audio output. This means there is only the optical audio out and not even a headphone jack.)

Once you double-check the input at the sound bar, choose the Line In input if you are using the stereo RCA cable. If you are using the Optical input, select that input. Use either the Mode button or the specific input button on the remote. Then double-check that the TV is set for the appropriate audio out.

I hope this helps. Please add a comment with the model of the TV and the sound bar for further information. I looked at the ONB18SB001 documentation for some of this. The manual for this Onn soundbar is available at Manuals Lib. See https://www.manualslib.com/manual/1498038/Onn-Onb18sb001.html?page=12#manual for the list of input modes and the input to which they correspond. Here is the image of the inputs on the back of the ONB18SB001: https://www.manualslib.com/manual/1498038/Onn-Onb18sb001.html?page=7#manual .

I have a Denon AVR 888, I want to use the reciever for my audio coming from my TV, I have plugged in a HDMI into the in port and connected it to my TV, I do not get any audio from the reciever

HI,
If you want to get the audio of tv program through the AVR then your tv should have a HDMI out port. Because you have connected the cable directly to tv. You didnt mentioned anything about your tv (make and model number). So its not possible to give you a final answer.

Check on thing isthere ia nsy RCA audio output in your tv. All tvs will have RCA audio out put. Wich you can connct to the TV /CBL in put of your AVR using a RCA cable. Then select the TV/CBL Using the SOURCE SELECTOR on the frond of the AVR.

Another Way is if there is optical out put on your tv then you can connect the optical out to the AVR's OPTICAL IN 1 or 2 Using an optical cable. Then you have to got to the input assignment menu of
the AVR and then you have to assign the optical 1 or optical 2 to wich you have made the connection. Here i have added the link to the user manual of the AVR. Check the page number 22. Which shows the menu tree. To assign the optical input for TV/CBL you have to go to the Input set-up there you will find the ASSIGN on the under CD,AUX etc menu.
This setup required if you use OPTICAL input of the AVR. Check the page number 14 for the connection diagram.

IF you are going to use RCA cable the simply connect one end of the rca to TV's AUDIO OUT and other end to the TV/CBL input of the AVR. And then select TV/CBL.

Here i have added the picture of RCA cable that you nee for making such connection between TV and AVR.

Apple tv to optical audio on avr 1601

You need to assign the optical input to the video input you are using. It's under the 'Input Setup' menu.

Or use HDMI, it will output the audio thru the HDMI connection. Once again assign the input under the Input Setup menu (press the Menu button on remote to access setup menus)

The optical digital input is not lit up in the back of my dvd player. I am trying to play connect it to my digital cable box, which does have a lit up optical plug.

You need to select the digital input after you connect an input source.

Optical signal strength is sensitive to small-radius bends in the cable.

DON'T LOOK DIRECTLY INTO AN OPTICAL CABLE or PORT.

I wanted to know if there is a way to hook up the sound from a Panasonic DMP-BD655P-K Blu-Ray player to my existing Yamaha DVX C310SW home theater system. I know I can hook the Blu Ray directly to the TV...

Yes this can be done. You have several options for audio hookup. Stereo 2-channel (white and red) RCA cables, digital audio (optical or coaxial) or HDMI. Your home theater must have the inputs available such as optical, coaxial etc. Typically the stereo 2-channel RCA is the simple way. Just connect from the Bluray audio outputs to the Home theater inputs (white and red) for stereo sound. Select the input on the home theater. For Dolby Digital 5.1 use optical digital audio cable (black port) or coaxial (orange RCA port) from Bluray to similar home theater input.

I have a Sony DBVE770W and cannot seem to get sound from my Dish Network receiver through an optical digital audio cable. The instructions for both devices basically say to just plug it in and it should...

Have you selected the correct input on the television? Also double checking the connections would be a good idea. If you need to determine if the port is bad try connecting the optical cable to another device or input, if you still cannot get anything you'll know if it's a bad cable or bad port.

How to connect my audio system directly to sony bravia

There is usually three ways to connect a TV to a Surround Sound system:

1. Optical Audio Cable (Fiber Optic)
2. Coaxial Audio Cable (Orange)
3. Composite Audio Cables (Left - White, Right - Red)

Once you select a cable to use that is compatible with both devices, you must then connect it to the output on the TV set, and one of the inputs on the Surround Sound Receiver (preferably the Video Input or whatever type you selected to use). Then you must change the input on the Receiver to the proper input that you connected the cable to (most Receivers will have a Source Button if not individual source buttons i.e. Tuner, Tape, CD, Video, Aux, etc.).
Note: Some Receivers if using a certain type of input will not have sound out of all 5 speakers unless the input is 5.1 compatible.

HDMI input connect as follows:

1. Connect an HDMI cable from the Cable box to the TV/CBL HDMI input on the Denon.
2. Connect an HDMI cable from the Xbox to the DVD/HDP input on the Denon.
3. Connect an HDMI cable from the HDMI out-put on the Denon to an input on the Samsung.
You don’t have to use the optical output from these to devices since the HDMI cable allows for the transfer of both audio and video, if you have them extra use them in addition to the HDMI cable and last,

4. On front of denon after you setup and assign your optical connections, if you use them, once you select TV/CBL or DVD/HDP as a source, press the input mode button to select auto

Denon AVR 2800 digital hookup to PS3

If your TV has an HDMI input, hook up the PS3 w/an HDMI cable to the TV. This will give you a high def picture (set up the PS3 to output the max resolution your TV displays). That will take care of the video side.

Next hook up an optical cable from the PS3 to the receiver. In the PS3 menu, you have to change the audio settings to output the sound via the optical cable.

Finally to get sound out of the receiver to the speakers, you have to setup the receiver source input. For example if you setup the PS3 to play thru "VCR" input, then you have to make sure the VCR input is setup to use either optical 1 or optical 2 for sound (whichever one you have the optical cable plugged in from the PS3).
  • I found this solution on a different site... it worked for me. I needed to change the sound settings in my ps3 to optical... then i selected dolby 5.1.... that took care of my sound.
