I have a SimpleTech backup drive, model 96300 40001 001. this Simple Tech tells me there's nothing new on my computer when I want to backup new files. I have all the proper directories checked and

in XP click start all programs accessories system tools you should see back up after the back up finishes windows will tell you your computer back up was successfull
also you could right click on the back up file select properties this will tell you how many GB were used
also you might use the easy transfer

Simpletech external hd 250 Gb is not reckon by vista (though was before) but works ok on XP. USBs are ok. It appears in disk management (says it is working properlly but no letter asigned to it) but does...

You need to partition it and format it inside of disk manager. You can do this by right clicking on the device (the gray box next to where it said there was no letter assigned)and selecting initialize.

I was given a 160 GB simple tech external hard drive and pluged

You don't really need a manual, it's simply a normal USB HDD you just plug it into a USB port. If OK, you will hear a "Bong Bong" and the OS will detect and install drivers, then the device will show up in My Computer, as a simple HDD, just use it as a normal drive.

Simple Tech SP U25/60 external hard drive

Almost nothing is supported on Win 2000 because it had shuch a short life span. most new tech made in the last 2-3 years only runs onXP or Vista. Every once in a while some will work back to 98.

p.s. did it say it was compatable with 2000? look on the box

Simple Tech external hard drive

if you are running windows, then check the following:

go to control panel -> administrative tools -> computer management -> storage -> disk management.

you probably have a drive (located on the bottom right) that is listed with no drive letter, just assign it a drive letter and see if it comes back, if not, the drive is probably not initializing and you might have to either format it or replace it.

Problems

One thing to remember is the some of the Simple drives requires the USB mini to conect to the drive and the TWO USB connects to be plugin to the computer.
