The dreaded U052 error means that the 'chip' fitted to the Cartridge is not responding .. Canon (like all printer mfgs) makes all it's profit from selling Ink .. so they fit these chips to try to prevent you refilling or using a 'compatible' replacement cartridge
You have to move the chip from the Canon cartridge to the 'compatible' and (it seems) the chips are particularly sensitive to static / damage .. many people end up blowing the chips during the swap over .. or even when fitting the original genuine cartridges to a brand new unit for the first time ...
If the unit is brand new, take it back and demand a replacement ... if you have just swapped over the chip onto a compatible cartridge, you can try buying a genuine Canon cartridge (which will have a new chip) = hopefully that will do the trick
NB. I have seen some suggestions that canon's have a 'Service Mode' that allows you to disable the cartridge chip checking and allow you to print no matter what .. however I've never found any details ... perhaps some-one else has the details ??

Hi I have U051, and U052 coming up, I did what it said to do press ok if that doesn't work turn it off, now it is continuously going to these problems. What do I do.

I solved this on mine by removing and reinstalling the print head.
1. Remove and set aside the ink cartidges (don't make a mess)
2. lift the gray print head lock lever that is to the left of where the ink cartridges go.
3. Lift out the print head out without touching the ink ports inside, the contacts on the back, or the print nozzles on the bottom. The print head is the grey thing with circular ink ports that seat the ink cartridges. there are good pictures in the PDF of the Easy Setup Instructions available on the Canon Printer website. Look under the printer, then support, then downloads: http://gdlp01.c-wss.com/gds/0900002776/mp510_esi_us_v2.pdf .
4. Put the print head back in, lock the lever, reinstall the cartridges in the roper positions. And voila!
If this doesn't work you may actually need a new print head.

you wont like what you find. lol .
apparently if you call cannon support they going to tell you its a U052 is a temperature sensor error. and not the print head error. someone musta did some bad programming. lol
try returning the cartridge if its not a canon specific cartridge - and get replacement - try that - but i doubt its going to work - i would call about a new one (print head that is - they will also apparently send you a new print head.) as i have read up on
hope this helped
