My Tom Tom XL 330 S doesn't name the streets-just says TURN HERE

It's impossible to figure out how to set it to actually NAME the streets.(as the advertising says it is supposed to (which I assume is the reason for the letter "S" in the XL 330 S. The User Manual is very sparse and doesn't include a HOW TO section. Hope you can help. I'm an old man and not terribly competent in using electronic devices---but I'm still learning !!

Hi,

When you choose a voice on your tomtom device, you will need to select a voice with the word 'computer' next to gender of the voice you select.

this will activate two option on the next screen allowing you to tick read street names.

    I have the exact same problem. Did exactly as you described. Attempted to download what I found out was a needed computer voice. Error messages pop up saying that the operation is incompatible with the device. Even though both customer service and the website state otherwise. I returned this unit and recieved a replacemnt, same model. IT DOES THE SAME THING AND WILL NOT ALLOW YOU TO DOWNLOAD THE SEEMINGLY MISSING COMPUTER VOICE! your solution doesn't work.

TOm TOm XL 340s and it does not announce street names
hi, it wont announce street names if you have the human voice selected. you must use the computer generated voice du,b as it sounds, thats the way it is.

go tp the change voice option and select a computer generated voice and try again..it should prompt you that you have selected one or the other.

if this fails, let me know and i can give you something else to try

Does not announce the street names, only distance to destination as in turn right in 500 feet but not name of street I have 330s
Change the voice to one of the built in COMPUTER generated voices.

I am unable to download the computer voice. I have tried several times and when I check it on the road it still won`t say the street names. I have a tom tom One Xl S. I can see it downloading onto my tom...
i do not know if you have changed the voice on the preferences, if not on main menu 1 page tap change preferences,go to page 4 tap change voice, the computer voices will be 1st ,then tap the one you want then select ,

Gps will not announce street names, highway's, etc. Important note: it had been announcing this data since I bought the GPS in December but just recently stopped doing so.
You have to change the voice to a computer voice. Go to where you choose voices on the main menu Change preferences > Voice preferences > Change voice. Find a voice with the word "computer" in the name and select it. At that point you will be asked what you want to be announced. By the way, this is called "text to speech" in TomTom talk.

Tomtom xl 330.s wont speek street names
Yes Nickarino is right.
When I switched on my new tom tom it gave me that option to speak street names and it vanished after selected a different voice. I checked all manuals and web references in Tom Tom - none of them list it.
Like Nick said - what you need to do is swtich the voice type to SAMANTHA and it will show the option "Read Street Names Loudly". I jumped on it and said yes ..!!!

Speaking the names of major streets
It will only tell you the names of the streets if you use the COMPUTER voice. The other voices will not announce street names. So go to your voice selection and pick the computer voice...either male or female.
