SOURCE: I have a simpletech 1TB ext. hard drive BOM No.

Hi there,

You need to install the hard drive driver for the PC to recognize it. If you don't have one, just look in the internet for a free driver.

SOURCE: simpletech external 320 gb... keeps burning out

Electrically you have either a drive that is pulling too much current or a mismatched transformer. You'll need to include what AC adapters , their electrical rating(volts and amps) as well as plug style and Polarity.

If you are buying them then just move on to an external enclosure on eBay or Amazon, open and extract the hard drive and use it in your enclosure. alternatively you can remove the drive and test it in a desktop PC

Where can I buy a simpletech 320GB BOM No: 96200-41001-057 power adapter? which power adapter do I need to purchase??

welcome to USA, we use our own adapters here, 120vac and special plug AC side.
where do you live country.?
simpletech 320GB BOM No: 96200-41001-05
they sell them on ebay, why not look there and buy it.
output 12vdc 0.4 amps or MORE.
center pin must be + output end.

any pack 12vdc like above works, over 0.4amps.
and AC end correct and if you have 240vac make sure the pack does that too.

How can I get a replacement power supply?

What you are after is an AC adapter this model I found on ebay has 120 volts to 240 volts to 12 volts make sure the DC voltage output matches the Voltage of your hard drive. The current output has to be the same amount or larger in value. So if your drive needs 2A a 2A or larger value means it can handle the current load put on it by the Hard drive.

Simpletech 320GB BOM No.: 96300-41001-012 is new has never worked

The original power supply is "SB2D-020-1HA SIMPLETECH AC ADAPTER 12V 1.5A FOR EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE" . Just find a replacement with the correct size plug (center positive) that supplies 12v DC at 1.5amps (1500ma)
