    Hi Dan

Been in the business for 35 years. I have changed the vertical output IC and checked supply voltages and capacitors. Can't seem to locate a schematic for troubleshooting

  • Anonymous Feb 05, 2009

Thanks Dan I found C303 near the Jungle I.C., but it teateds OK.

So far I have Changed out vertical output IC and have checked diodes and capcacitors for E.S.R. I have also checked gthe + and - power supplies they are OK. Seems RCA has really tken a nose dive as far as product support

There is a problem with the vertical circuit. In many cases this is either poor solder connections or a defecitve vertical IC. If you can solder you should be able to fix this yourself. Please note that there are potentially dangerous high voltages present inside the set even when unplugged. Let me know if you wish to attempt the repair and I'll provide additional details and instructions.

Thanks,
Dan

Sorry about the delay, I've had csome connectivity issues. I am attempting to access the schematic as I write this. One thing to check is that there is a cap in the vertical circuit that is not located with the rest. I think it is around the jungle IC area. It should be marked with the same circuit designation as the rest of the vertical circuit parts though (eg IC3xx for the vertical IC, Cxxx for the cap).

Check that first. I'll add more in a bit.

I'm assuming that you tested the cap using an ESR meter. I would change the caps anyway. They may be failing under load. The ESR meter does not put that much of a load on the component. My connectivity should be back to normal tonight for access to the RCA stuff. Thanks for being patient. I'll try to loko at the schematic tonight.

The screen is only showing the bottom half.

Hi. Look for cold solderjoints on the vertical output section. Most likely, the vertical final IC has bad solderings. Using a magnifier, one can see "craters" around the soldering pin/pad. Or just simply re-do all of them. Good luck;

Daewoo dtq-206sc have retrace lines

if retrace lines at top of picture the issue is in the vertical circuit--usually a bad filter cap and or the output chip (most of the caps that cause that are 220 uf or 330 uf and connected directly to one pin on the chip.

If retrace lines are across entire screen---likely the master screen control on the Flyback is set too high--causes excessive brightness and the retrace lines.

White horizontal lines on top of screen

Replace all the electrolytic capacitors in the vertical output section circuit. There will be 5 or 6 of them. Replace the at one time. The fault you see is technically called " vertical retrace lies".

I am repairing my sister TV {Toshiba TN61X81}. The original was no picture and with sound. Upon troubleshooting the vertical deflection, ihad move the screen control for all 3 crts to see the horinzontal...

The easiest way I have found to set the screen controls is to tune into an old black and white show, turn the green up until you see retrace then slowly turn it down until it just dissapears then adjust the blue and red for a true black and white picture.

TV Bars

These are called vertical retrace lines. They are going to get worse untill you find the bad capacitor(s) or replace the vertical driver/output IC. Please, if you have not the solid state repair experience, get a pro to assist you in this repair as there are no user replaceable parts inside this set. Good Luck PLease do not forget to rate this thread.
