microsoft didn't tell you that, did they. they have not set up the subscription rate yet. you can buy the un subscription version around 100.00 USD but you will start having to pay in a 1 1/2 years.

The battery cover is the part of the top of the mouse on the opposite end from the scroll wheel. Turn the mouse upside down with the scroll wheel away from you. On the end closer to you is a latch (called a "hinge" in the user manual) for the battery cover. Depress the latch and slide the battery cover off of the end.

Remove the battery cover from the top of the mouse by pressing the battery cover hinge located on the bottom of the mouse and sliding it off.

Most USB hubs do not need an external power supply, except when a connected USB device draws more power than the computer/laptop USB port can supply. In this case an external power supply will need to be connected to the USB hub.
Normally this would be a 5 volt power supply, but make sure the polarity on the connector matches the power connector on the hub, check the label on the hub, sometimes it states to power requirements of the hub as well as the polarity on the connector. Normally the pin on the hub's power connector is positive (ie. +5V)
