Problems connecting Siemens Speedstream 4100 to a non-AT&T ISP

I used to have AT&T and now switched to a cheaper ISP (www.dslextreme.com). I'm using the free modem from AT&T which is a Siemens Speedstream 4100. Well, I can't connect to the internet and according to the ISP's set up instructions:
- I've changed the DNS and IP to "automatic".
- set modem as "bridged"
Now I can't connect my Netgear router.
I've "reset" the modem and now I can't even log into the modem's config.
Is this modem designed to work on an AT&T DSL only?

OK, so I reset the modem and reverted back to "PPPoE on modem", still doesn't work.

How do I get this work????? its driving me crazy.

and this modem is on one of their "approved modem" list

Shouldn't it be almost plug-n-play?

You don't need any driver if you use the Ethernet port instead of the USB (Highly recommended and faster)

My modem only shows two lights. the power and ethernet lights, called isp, they found no problems with their connections, checked telo land line, able to get dial up connection, reset modem, unplugged,...

Hi,
change your modem from PPPOE connection to Bridge mode make a dialup connection to connect internet.

The modem advanced settings had VCI=35. It should be VCI=32 for QWest. See http://www.dslmodemsdirect.com/DSL%20Configuration/VPI_VCI%20configuration%20Page.htm for other providers.

Siemens Speedstream 4100b Firewall?

4100 modem dont have interface and needs broadband connection in your network connection page
4100b modem have an interface and can access interface by the IPADDRESS of 192.168.1.64 and default gateway of 192.168.0.1
by accessing the default gateway using address bar of internet explorer browser it will be easy to configure..
FIREWALL: all AT&T modems firewall are safe and compatible to use to OS that has a built in firewall

what kind of problem are you having? if setup problem, u can call your ISP(if the modem came from your isp).if you already tried running the cd installer and it's still not working, the technical support has a manual configuration and can walk you thru it over the phone..
