You will have to use a putty knife to separate the top from the burner box.
After you do your repair you will also need 107 inches of burner box tape to re-seal the top.

It should have come with a universal strip, if not, you can buy a compressable strip for 'doors', not the sponge type, and then for added peace of mind,cut off any exess of the compressionable seal, sealthe joint between the cooker edge and the worktop with translusant (clear) silicone. Unless you are proficent in this procedure, obtain proffesional help. Regards, Dave.

I don't think I'd glue it down permenantly. I just had to replace the ceramic glass on mine (a JED 8430 ABD) after it cracked. Thankfully, it wasn't glued down so I could replace it pretty easily (ordered part directly from Jenn Air). But some sort of seal to keep food out from under the cooktop would be nice. I just wouldn't go permenant. The fact that you have to tape the down draft to the external vent should keep the cooktop in one place (plus its own weight).

Did one not come with the unit itself? It would be taped to the top. If not then go here.

the problem is you didn't clean the unit before you used it the first time w/ the ceramabrite wax. the glass on your cooktop is porous and unless you seal it before ever using whatever went into the pores originally will always be in the pores and no amount of cleaner will get it out.

Seal all holes on the underside of cooktop. This is called the burner box. Seal all openings with aluminum tape. This should stop the back draft effect.
