Pentax k2 When I bought this camera it seemed to be working, I replaced the batteries and everything seemed to be fine. Then, after taking a few photos, the shutter stuck open and would not close. I tried taking the batteries out because I know they are what hold the shutter open for extended periods (I think) but it did nothing. After being on a shelf for a couple weeks, I looked again and the shutter had come down half way... i lightly pressed it and it snapped back down. The camera worked again for maybe 20 shots, but then stuck open again. A local camera repair shop gave me an online quote of $175 dollars to fix this, saying the camera needs a complete overhaul, a new mirror, new light sealing, etc. Is there any one component that can be fixed instead of getting an overhaul that is worth more than the camera?

SOURCE: Pentax K2 Shutter and mirror problem

Without a stripdown it's not possible to give a definitive answer. Clearly the mechnical interlock which prevents the shutter from firing until the mirror is out of the way is not functioning correctly, but pressing the dof button overcomes this.

It's possible that something has broken or worn internally, but far more likely that old dried camera grease coupled with decomposing gooey foam bumpers and light seals has gummed up the workings.

Now that film SLR's are ten a penny and often free on FreeCycle it's certainly makes no economical sense to repair this camera. But it's a real classic and a delight to use so it's worth sending to a professional repair shop for a thorough service just as you would with a classic car or motorbike.

Hi, have pentax k100 d, like new taken very good care of. Stored with batteries removed. Now all I get are low sound clicks firing only when button is pressed. Went into menu and opened shutter and turned...

Sounds like your shutter is stuck. Given that the camera is only worth about $100 -- or even less -- it's probably not worth sending in for repair. You can buy a good used "upgrade" like the K200 or even the K-50 for about what a shutter replacement would cost.

Camera drains battery while off

Assuming you're fully closing the front slider cover, the power switch is activated by the front slider cover so it may not be activating the switch or sensing that the cover fully closed. Sounds like it needs a professional service.

Pentax MZ-60 very ******* batteries

steve_macint,

the camera has a short circuit. if the camera got wet or was in very high humidity the flex circuit is shorting . take or send your MZ60 to a camera repair shop for an estimate. if the camera has liquid damage they most likely will not repair it.
however if it's just a component part it's fixable.
the battery drain will worsen as the short increases.

K2 film camera isnot working even after i changed the battery

The camera is not dependant on the battery so changing it will not help.

In order to operate the camera you need to wind on to prime the shutter for firing.

The most common fault that jams these cameras is a catch under the bottom cover. A camera repair person will know what to do about that, but it might not be that.

This is closely related to the K1000 so any solution for that camera will apply.

To see how to open the camera up for repair and how to do this properly there is a camera repair site which deal with this and other cameras in detail. alternatively you can contact the author who can offer a very competitive camera repair service for these models.

Pentax A10 won't power on

I've seen a few online posts about this while I was looking for answers because the same thing is happening with my w10. It's just over a year, and when I turn it on it seems like it is trying to start up, does a couple of beeps, and then powers down.

It's too bad, I LOVED this camera, and have since bought a sony which I detest, but if this is common I can't afford to be replacing the pentax every year. very sad.

No matter what I do, my camera keeps giving me a "Battery Depleted" message whenever I try to turn it on. It's a Pentax Optio E40, and I've only had it a couple of weeks. It was working fine, but...

I had the same problem and checked the manual. If you haven't used the camera in a while and there were either no batteries or dead batteries in it, put in new batteries, keep it off, and WAIT a few minutes. Then try to turn it on. This helped with Pentax Optio E40.

Pentax K10D won't work with lens from Pentax K100 (film0

The lenses are probably manual focus lenses,
  1. Make sure that the apature ring is set to 'A' or automatic,
  2. if these are manual focus lenses then switch the focus switch on the left side of the camera body to MF
  3. If this still doesn't work, or you are having trouble with the apature ring then press the menu button to go to the  menu then press the right arrow key untill you are in the  Custom Settings, scroll through the custom settings with the up and down arrow keys until about the 2nd from bottom there is an option called "using aperture ring" set this to 2 (Permitted) This will make the camera take a image when lens is on any f-stop manually.
Try this and everything should work fine. If all this hasn't worked then try seting the mode dial on the camera to M manual mode. Cheers
