Laptop apprears to go into sleep mode while I'm using it

I have a Toshiba Satellite P205 with Windows Vista. While I am using the computer, it appears to go into sleep mode, but I cannot turn it back on. The screen goes blank, but it's still lit up so it's not completely black. The hard drive light is not blinking so I assume the computer is no longer running but I am not certain. I just bought the laptop and thought it must be a lemon so I exchanged it for another and the new one is doing the same thing. It is literally shutting down while I am using it so it can't actually be going into sleep mode and I changed sleep mode settings to not be activated for 45 minutes. Any thoughts? I have that exact problem. Mine is the satellite P205D S7438. I've had mine a little over a year. I called toshiba for support and they had me check settings and such, but it still does it. It drives me crazy! Toshiba technical support is no help at all. I wish I would have purchased a different brand, but I guess I'm stuck with it now. Any one have any info on how or if this can be fixed??

I have a similar problem with a P205D-S7436. I took it for warrenty repair but it was no trouble found - failed again as soon as I got it back. I have since found that it only fails with the A/C adapter is plugged in - see if yours works OK on battery only. If so, I am told, it is a bad A/C power jack, I have also been told it's a common problem plauging this M/B series.

I have found one place that repairs the jack for $100 -http://comprehensivecomputing.net/power_...
    - I haven't used them yet but am about to ship the laptop off for repair.

It might take some time being a freeware driver solution

note: it will find all of your outdated drivers

this is a free driver solutions

this will automatically search for and find the correct driver
you will have to update every driver individually once you update you might be asked whether you

want to restart or make a system restore point click no to both of these then continue updating each driver free then restart once all of the drivers have been updated

Laptop apprears to go into sleep mode while I'm using it

To my knowledge it could be hibernate mode for laptops to save battery life when not plugged into the wall, try pressing the power button, my Compaq did that too. Also don't hold down the power button as after 5 seconds it just shuts off the laptop, unless you wanna do that.
