I have just brought a Logitec Webcam C120 and cannot get any sound. Do I have to get a microphone? When I do the sound test can't get any recording back.

Hi lynne_law ,

Many people mistakenly think that webcam can be used for audio as well as video transmission.

  1. Webcams don't usually come with microphones , therefore you would require a separate microphone for your voice recordings and voice chats.
  2. I would suggest you get a headset which would have the microphone option as well , or you can get a hand held mic.
  3. Once you get a new mic, you need to connect it to your computer by plugging in the mic in the appropriate slot , and by default the mic should work.
  4. If it does not work , you just need to change the microphone settings using the volume control option or audio settings via control panel.
Hope this helps ... ) Your feedback would be appreciated.

Microphone wont work

You do not say what OS you have but you need to check that the webcam mic is set as default.

Vista

TEST SPEAKERS
Right click on speaker icon in System Tray or from Control Panel
Select "Playback Devices"
The speaker icon ( checked as working) and volume level graph should be visible
Right click on the volume graph and click "Test"
Left hand speakers followed by right hand should be heard

SET DEFAULT & TEST MIC
Click "Recording" tab.
To set required (webcam) mic as default - click on mic font to highlight and click "Properties"
In lower dropbox display "Use this device enable" click 'OK'
Click "Levels" tab and ramp up sliders ( adjust to suit later)
Return to "Recording". Test mic by speaking and make sure volume graph displays

Restart computer

Configure to your chat program

If you have an earlier OS you may have to access your hardware from your Control Panel

How do u get hsm wii microphone to work on

well ..i cant see what type of conection you mic has and what you really want to achieve as far as quality of sound or ultimate use..,but...here are some ideas.. A mic needs a pre amp and that is often built into some cheap but usable mini mixers made by behringer..You could pick up one and a good cheap dynamic mic[dynamic mics are best close to the sound source] with a lead and then go from the main output of the little mixer to the audio input of the computer.. A second but easier way and one that could give very good results is purchase a USB input microphone and this will have mic pre amp built in so it just plugs into your computer usb port.. SE electronics ,Rode make brilliant ones that are used often for podcasting..[well worth the +-100 uk pounds] but i am confident that berhinger will make a usable model for much less money[these type usb condensers will be sensitive and give clear results]...

I dont know what kind of radio i have

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, a CES- 600L is a DTMF encoder microphone with lighted keyboard. For your need:
  • almost always, the simplest requirement would be a 600 ohm mic and a PTT switch;
  • minimum of 3 wires are needed for a 2-way radio microphone to work;
  • 1-mic audio;
  • 2-PTT switch (must go to ground when PTT pressed to TX);
  • 3-common/GND;
  • in some, 4-RX audio (not needed if radio receives with no mic).
Having said the above, then any replacement microphone with appropriate microphone plug/jack could be wired to match the GE. A generic example is shown below.

Pls post back result(s). Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

Editing? Can dictation be paused, then go back part way and....

you can not do this with the Olympus ws-100, you need a dictation machine that has the editing function which allows you to easily insert, overwrite, partially erase files and continue on the same file, most of the digital dictation units have NEW FILE BUTTON , you will stay recording on the same file till you press new.
Look at Olympus DS-2300. Olympus DS-33300 or ds-4000.

AKG Perception 100 not working, at all

The problem is that your amp probably doesn't have phantom power. This mic requires phantom power to be supplied to it via the XLR connector. Most mixers and mic pres have that feature, but most guitar amps do not, I believe. Hope that helps...
