Finding out that your Skype account has been hacked can be a nasty shock. It means that you lose access to your contacts, at least temporarily. This can potentially mean that you cannot get in touch with certain people. Furthermore, a hacked account may mean that the hacker is using your Skype credit or even your PayPal money to place calls of his own.

Change Your Password Changing your Skype password, if you can, helps limit the hacker's access to your account. With any luck, the hacker has only changed your password and not also the email address associated with your Skype account. Visit the inbox for the account you provided. You should have an email from Skype. Click the link within this email to reset your password. b> Reporting the Issue b> Let Skype know about the fact that your account has been compromised. Do this regardless of whether you were successfully able to regain access to your account by resetting the password. Submit a support request on Skype's "Identity theft/Account takeover" topic by visiting the associated help page. Click the blue "Continue support request" button at the bottom of the page. Choose the "Email support" option, and then fill out the required information. This includes your full name, your Skype name and a specific description of your issue. You may also need to provide the email address you used when you initially created the Skype account, even if you changed the address associated with the account later. Safety Precautions b> Take some safety precautions to stop the situation from getting any worse. If your Skype account is linked to your PayPal account, for example, contact PayPal immediately. Inform them of possible fraudulent charges and to ask them to refuse any further Skype charges. If you use your hacked Skype password for other accounts, such as online banking or email, change those passwords to prevent the hacker from gaining access to those accounts. b> Avoiding a Recurrance b> Having your Skype account hacked once is probably more than enough for your taste. Don't let it happen again. Create a strong password when you regain access to your Skype account. Include letters, numbers and punctuation in this password to make it harder to figure out. In the future, if you receive emails that appear to be from Skype and ask you to sign in or provide your password, do not do so. Instead, go directly to the Skype website and sign in to your account there.
