1. You might be able to download foto's from the camera, when you do it manually from within the installed Olympus program. Windows XP has problems with auto downloading foto's from ib. 2. Otherwise, check if the computer is recognizing the camera (see LCD) and with the Explorer if a removeable memory device is available from the camera. 3. Try putting the camera into another USB port, or try the camera on another computer. 4. As an alternative, you might want to install a better and also free Olympus program: http://support.olympus-imaging.com/ov2download/index/?Lang=ENU
remove the card and place it in a regular computer card reader. most Olympus used to use XD so if yours is XD make sure the card reader supports it. Otherwise it wil be an SD that most readers can handle.
Copy your pictures off the card and whilst it is still in the computer FORMAT it using FAT or FAT32
Once bak in the camera it should be good to use again.
If Not then the card has a fault and you mayneed to replace it.
The Olympus SP-800uz users manual can also be downloaded: http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/cpg_support_manuals.asp?id=1499 or English: http://www.olympusamerica.com/files/oima_cckb/SP-800UZ_Instruction_Manual_EN.pdf The Olympus [ib] software is on the cameras internal memory, if you did not format (delete) it. Look there for the setup.exe and run it. Although the best alternative free Olympus software is Olympus viewer 2 which replaces also Olympus Master 2: http://support.olympus-imaging.com/ov2download/
Load the software, connect the usb from the camera to the computer, by using the software download it to your computer and use Roxio, Nero, etc software to burn pictures to your cd.
If it has a slot for SD card you can directly burn it from the SD card to the CD player if you have media card slot on your computer.
By default Olympus cameras do not print the date on the images when they are downloaded to a PC. Olympus does not include this functionality because they feel that it detracts from image quality. There is a function of the camera called print order that you can set that it will print the date on the images but this is only if you take the card to a photo processing store. However if you use the Olympus Master software and print the images that you have previously transferred there is a check box in the print setting window that you can add the date and or time to the printed image.
As long as the xD card was not formatted it is possible to recover the images that were accidently erased. You can go to the following website link and download an image recovery software program that is free of charge. http://www.z-a-recovery.com/ You want to download a program called Zero Assumption Recovery. It is a very simple program to use and many people have had much success in recovering lost images.
Data recovery is a booming industry, and many appropriate services and software can be found by searching regional phone and business directories or the Internet for terms such as "image recovery" or "data recovery".
The key means that the picture is locked so you can not erase by accident. You need to remove the key be for you can erase the pic. If you have the manual it will tell you how. if not get me the model of camera and I will get you a manual.
Try to format the memory card and permanently delete all data from the image card. Go to menu to setup and then to format option. The card should then be back to being able to store its maximum number of images depending on what size card it is.
