After temp is set bottom oven will not heat up to desired temp

I set temp to 350 but oven will not heat up to desired temp but I do hear clicks as if the oven is heating up. What could be wrong?

  • tlelliott8 Jan 28, 2009

Thanks for the helpful response. In the bake mode, if I set the temperature to 350 or more, the oven will heat up to 275 but it will take a very long time to get there. However, it won' get any hotter. The broiler seems to work okay.

You probably have a burnt out or shorted out lower bake element in you r lower oven. it sometimes will actually break apart or look like it sparked thru the black tubular section. it is common and will cause no heat during the bake cycle.
you could try to do a broil and see if it gets hot and that would let you know the control is ok and just needs the lower bake element.

Bottom oven isn't heating to desired temp. Considering swapping the heating elements to see if one is faulty - thoughts?

try thermostat first. verify heating elements operational, if so check if tstats are same. swap if so, If not jump out tstat and see if higher temp achieved.

Gas oven doesn't get hot enough

Good Morning Friend,

I understand that your Frigidaire oven will not heat to temperature if you set it to 350 degrees. I see that you have to set it to 450 degrees for it to heat up, and then turn it back down to the desired temperature. Please try resetting your appliance, by either unplugging it or shutting the power off at your home's circuit breaker, for 3-5 minutes. Restore power, set the clock and try setting the temperature to 350 degrees. I ask that you please follow up with a comment on the post, at your convenience, to advise if further troubleshooting is needed or if your appliances status has changed successfully. Hope this is helpful.

-Best Regards-

Oven temp fluctuates

It is normal for the thermal device to turn on and off. Obtaining a steady temp is not always possible. When setting a temperature on some ovens, they have what is called a tolerance point. That means a set temperature has a range of a few degrees up or down. At the Down point, the oven is triggered to energize the coils and bring the interior of the oven back to the settings desired. The other factor is opening the oven and allowing cool air to enter, or in some cases a leaking door seal allows air to enter and heat to escape.

Bottom element is not heating to temp an shuts off during heat up - without error code showing in the display. IE. - Press Bake, 350 degrees defaults on screen; Press Start. YOu hear the Click as it...

Hello & Welcome to FixYa

This indicates an open/shorted oven temperature sensor and to solve this problem the sensor needs replacement. If you wan to be sure before replacing the sensor then you can test it with a voltmeter for around 1100ohms....if it reads more then this then it needs replacement however, if the reading is around or less then 1100ohms then it is the control board that needs replacement. Please get back to me if you have any other questions.

I am working on a Maytag Oven Model #MER5555QAW. You turn the oven to 350 deg. It goes immediately to 350 but then the temp goes off. It will not maintain the desired temp. Is this the sensor or the...

So are you saying that the oven does not start at all?The 350 just appears on the display and then pressing enter it disappears?Does it warm at all?If it warms,it is most likely the thermocouple or ASM,both are the same, just varies between makers. If it does not heat at all,it sounds like somehow the temperature setting got switched from F to C somehow, which can happen completely not done by you.Let me know which situation you have and I'll figure it out.Greg

My oven heats up, but then does not maintain the temp.

If it has a pilot then I would say the thermal couple is bad. If it has a glow type ignitor then the ignitor is bad.
