There is a small pointer in the front side of your phone (looks like front camera, but its actually not :-( ). This is actually proximity sensor. While you are on call and talking without headphone, it senses the distance between phone and your ear, and quickly disables the screen light with a black screen. It saves battery and also avoids unnecessary touch of your skin while on call. Please make sure theres nothing (phone cover) is blocking that sensor point. If anything permanently blocking the censor it will never allow you to operate the phone while on call.

Open up your nintendo DS and look for the black wire connected to a small board. You will know because there are only 2 wires running in the DS. A white one (microphone) A black one (wifi)
This WIFI board (if gone bad) causes the DS to cut on, but get no video at all.
Check screen brightness. On keyboard is normally activated by combined FN + Fx keys (F9 or F10). Check your keytops and/or your user manual. Using this feature you should be able to restore a standard contrast on your screen. If it isn't working the only alternative is external monitor.
