Fix my line problem but red LED flashes five times

Hi Guys, I fixed my horizontal line problem by adjusting the power adjustments for my RGB guns per your web instructions. Worked Great! The red LED is blinking five times (used to be 8 times but that stopped). What does this mean.

Any Idea exactly which knob it is? They aren't marked. Do you have voltage output levels that I should work to obtain for each gun?

  • Anonymous Jan 27, 2009

I decreased the power to I believe the blue and green guns to eliminate the horizontal lines that I was experiencing. Occaisionally during this process the screen would flash bright green and the LED indicator lights would blink eight times. The horizontal lines have disappeared but I now the red LED blinks five times

I think you are adjusting screen volt of 3 guns through a box fixed at front corner near speaker.
Let me explain procedure how to set power ( screen volt) HV Control has 6 knobs, upper 3 and lower 3, check there mark of SCREEN R-G-B.
Room light should be low and cover 2 guns lenses with any thing like paper or book and adjust uncovered gun. now cover this and uncover any one other, same adjustment and do the same with last gun.
Adjust screen volt of all 3 guns up to that level as retrace lines ( horizontal lines) disappear.
now screen volts has been adjusted and tv will not give you 5 times error.

Let me know what you had adjusted before at 8 times blinks?

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

5 times blinks means poor white balance result.
Please readjust those knobs of power (screen voltage).

Hi Guys, Looks like your advise took care of the problem. I adjusted the power knobs for each of the RGB guns on my Sony 51 inch projection TV. The color looks great and I don't seem to have the blinking indicator light bugging me any more. I will be sure to suggest you folks to anyone with these type of technical questions.

GREAT JOB!!

How do I unlock the setup options for horizontal & vertical adjustments on my 55" HDT 51M 2006 Plasma TV won't let me access the horizontal or vertical options in setup in RGB 1 mode.

You have to enter the service mode option to it, to do horizontal and vertical adjustments. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Viewing it in "Mosaic" or "Magazine" will make surf easy. Pull up older posts. Surf the site with patience. Do a search by type in the brand name of your device at its search box.

Service mode entry, adjust and exit procedure to many popular brand TVs are given. Never forget to exit the service mode, after all adjustments have been done.

Picture ok with a 6 inches blue vertical line from top to botton

For a five or 7 inch band we have a fix. Six is a big problem. A vertical band is either a sync condition requiring an adjustment of one or more pots on the circuit board. Usually the condition is Horizontal and rarely up and down the screen. LED is generally very reliable and two of 3 colors within the diode in your case (one red and one green) are not working. If this TV is in Warranty, replace it as you cannot fix this yourself.

Have a Sony KP-65WV600, already replaced d board once, and replaced convergence ic's once also. Now as soon as I turn unit on, turns to red screen and shuts off, video that is, audio works ok, noticed...

Check High voltage Block. After replacing ic's (STK convergence ic's) you need to adjust Black&White scale.Turn ALL screen adjustments to min.Turn TV on and adjust screen slowly for each gun (I would start with Red first ) when you came to point that you see red background with white lines across, at that point G2 is too high (that will cause TV to shut down, don't worry just lowered adjustment and turn tv back on) so adjust to proper voltage and do the same for each gun. After that, adjust focus for each gun (again all controls are on High Voltage Block and HVB is mounted on front of your tv after you take speaker gril out) black box with 6 controls' screen RGB, focus RGB .
You should do that in dark room in order to get perfect Black&White scale, when all guns are adjusted properly you will see grey picture.Make sure 'Color" adjustment on your display is down to 0. Another step is convergence adjustment ,Flash Focus etc.If TV stil shuts off after all, your Red picture tube is short inside, take crt pcb from tube, make sure TV is unpluged from power before that, and turn Tv on .If stays On tube need replacment...good luck)

Im seeing duble words, how can i fix it?

Hi,
There should be a convergence adjustment on this set. It will have a "cross hair" type pattern
You adjust the beams so that the cross hairs turn white. I believe Green is not adjustable intentionally. The procedure is to adjust the vertical Red line until it alligns with the Green line. Then adjust the vertical Blue line until it lines up with the Red and Green. The line should turn White.
Repeat the procedure for the horizontal lines. When you return to regular viewing mode the double
images should be greatly reduced or eliminated..
Hope I've helped you,
Best Regards,
Mark

I have a samsung 47 inch rear projection w/self focus there is a continuos blue shadow around images is there a quick fix

The blue is caused by the RGB gun alignment. Green is a fixed gun and Red and Blue are adjustable. In my Mitsubishi, the guns are motorized and can initially be adjusted (course) with the remote. There are more detailed adjustments that can be made if you purchase the service manual. I paid approx $19.00 on line 3 years ago and it is a complete manual. Unfortunetly I don't remember the site. To do a complete alignment, there are steps to take: starting with entering a code using the remote to enter the setup. To make a long story short, I had my tv aligned 3 or 4 times over 5 years under the extended warranty. After watching the tech, who was good, but under time constraints, it was clear that most anyone could do it if they could read and follow instructions.

No red in the image on the screen

The adjsutment that you turned down was the G2 voltage to the red tube which is just a temporary fix for a CRT which has a short developing in it. Try turning up the red adjustment again only slightly to see if the red CRT ( tube) will light up
if it does and then the set shuts down its most likely the red CRT which is bad . If it lights up but you get retrace lines but doesnt shut down it possible that its the CR board ( Red CRT Drive Board) which is at the very bottom of the red tube.

Philips 42PF7220A/37 42'' TV (LED flashes red 7 times)

Five buck solution; If you have any tek skills at all and are feeling adventurous; UNPLUG THE POWER, remove the back panel; You will be faced with the mainboard. In the lower right quadrant you will see two small capacitors, like tiny yellowish coke cans. If these are bulging, there lies your problem. These must be replaced. If you have no soldering skills, take only the mainboard to a fixit shop and have them solder in the two capacitors easily found on line. No guarantee's but worth a try

Have lost ability to control brightness.

lost,
wow a CRT that even glows at all , and you wonder why its dem
the electron gun cathodes get weaker every day of its life.
all CRTs do that, not one or even TVs using CRT
the red gun always goes dim first so we crank it up in the OSD.

if it fails on all PCs, the monitor is bad, a 5 min test. and bingo
then if the monitor is known bad then what.
the OSD screen ever seen that, and the front panel key marked MENU/?
go there and play with brightness, and even the electron gun tuning, the page for that is RGB, Red Green blue.
adjust them so white looks OK.
but if all are dim, that is normal for old CRT,
we only get like 3 folks a year stuck in 1990s... or older.
the labor to fix it is 3 times a new LCD LED display.

land fill time. like the other billion made, and scrapped
