Windows xp operating system will not boot. Bios say no IDE. and i have a boot disk that says no hard drive found. What should i do?

Your hard drive is most likely bad or the ribbon cable is not connected.

Can you just clarify that you installed XP with the new IDE drive installed in the notebook and that you have selected disc 0 in the bios as IDE and that it is aslo set to boot from that drive?
What you are describing also fits the symptoms of installing XP on a SATA drive without installing SATA drivers first. (XP doesn't install SATA drivers, Vista does.)
So this does sound like a bios setting issue

hi..try to remove unplug or plug in the Hard Drive,, if cant work you or nothing happens you need to re-place the hard drive.about files theirs nothing ways to recover the files if the Hard Drive is totally defective..Thanks..and GOOD LUCK...^_^

Typically this is caused by a corrupt windows file which can be caused by a bad disk drive or a software error that has screwed up the disk indexes.
Use your Win7 disk and do a system repair (NOT INSTALL). Often this will clear up any problem.
After that it gets complicated and you probably will need the assistance of a local computer store.
