Even the buttons on the tv won't respond when it does this, i have to keep pushing the off button till it finally goes off, then turn it on again, sometimes it will start working, but mostly it does not, and i have to just give up for awhile, then later it start working again.....somedays it works somedays it work for awhile, then stops responding, we got a new universal remote....but the problem came back.....
SOURCE: I bought a vizio 42
A universal remote will work as long as vizio is listed as one of the brands on the back of the box for the remote. Most of them are easy to program as long as you follow the directions. You can pick one up for less than ten bucks just about anywhere.
SOURCE: Menu button stopped responding
If only one button does not work at all or all do not work the unit may have a lock out feature that would be explained in the owners manual.

we mounted the tv on the wall, with a universal bracket, we only use this tv when we use the condo, which is about every two weeks for three or four days but the problem always happens at some point in the weekend....could it be firmware updates?
