That sound like arcing inside the food cavity. Maybe it needs cleaning? or some contamination is flashing over making the popping noises.

if the sound is a buzzing noise, it is probably your magnetron, most GE microwaves have a 5 or 10 year warranty on magnetron, all you may have to pay is labor

The first thing I would do is thoroughly clean the inside. Take particular care when cleaning around the upper left side. Sometimes a buildup of food steam or spray can cause the problem you are having. Never spray anything into the microwave, in an attempt to clean it.

very possible your magnatron is faulty. Disconnect 2 transformer wires and make sure they dont short. try the program again. if no noise, replace magnatron:capacitor and HV diode Please i strongly suggest an electrician help you as it is truely dangerous in there. .

I am having the exact same problem. There was a large POP and now it makes a weird noise and doesn't heat. Everything else appears to work though. I think it may be the HV Capacitor. Before I tear this thing off the wall and check the Capacitor does this sound like it may be the problem?

If the maggie went it's very plasible that it took out the Cap and/or HV diode with it.
